I'd be concerned about the camellia and the aucuba- neither takes winter sun very well, and also don't like sun when they have ice on their leaves. The daphne can be very fussy, or do well for a while. The Cherrylaurel is a good choice- how deep is the area? They get wide.
The kalmia (mountain laurel) is beautiful- but beware that it dosn't wilt when it's dry, so you have to be careful to check the soil moisture.
For that much sun, I'd probably go with one of the new Encore Azaleas- they prefer more sun than regular azaleas and they bloom again in the fall. Some regular azaleas tolerate lots of sun, especially with regular water, but many just get terrible lacebugs and don't do well.
I'm seeing more gardenias used around Richmond, and out into Goochland- I guess it's the new hardy varieties. Search the Southern forum for gardenia posts.

Some of those have fussy soil requirements--do you have acidic soil or areyou willing to amend?

I am a huge fan of my Prunus laurocerasus 'Otto Luken' (Cherry Laurel) shrubs. They provide an attractive evergreen backdrop and fragrance in the spring (flowers are inconspicuous and the berries even more so). In Richmond it is probably safer to grow some of the zone 7 plants that I shy away from (Camella and Gardenia). Aucuba? I have one growing near my front door and it does well with almost no sun or water, but I do have to hack it back every few years to keep it in check. Are there cultivars that would make good foundation plants?

I would not rule out "common green" plants like yews, junipers and Japanese hollies. There are some smaller holly varieties with showy berries as well. Japanese Pieris is a plant that I am growing fond of (planted 4 last year...looked great all winter...attractive spring flower...showy new growth).

Frankly I wouldn't choose any of those for a full sun exposure foundation planting in your region. Without seeing your house, I can only tell you what my favorites are. I would choose an assortment of hollies (blue hollies are great, but you have to have at least one male to make berries). If you can find it, one of my favorite foundation plants just for a solid green background that doesn't require too much pruning is Ligustrum 'Green Meatball'. It stays around 4' or 5' and does indeed form a green meatball. Great background for more colorful deciduous shrubs/perennials in front.
