question for Al about gardenia

Hello Al, and others. If you remember , I had a friend that planted four tree form Gardenias in a peat based potting soil. They did better than I thought they would. I think because all that rain we were having finally stopped, and they were allowed to dry out.

Well he gave them too me. I almost said no but they were so beautiful with blooms that never stopped. And they are still blooming. But now I have to over winter them and they are in that peat mix. Could I change them to the gritty mix now? Or should I wait? I know that means shaking off all the soil attached to the roots, and working the gritty in with a stick. Sounds kind of difficult. The other question I had was one of them had mealy bugs. I have never dealt with them before. I kept the infected one away from the other three. Whats the best stuff to keep them away from the other three? Should I just burn the other one? Thank you. filix.
