Stumped on what to put between dwarf rhodes (pic)

Here is a pic of the house. I have these dwarf rhododendron that bloom quickly in the soring then they are gone and I am left with lots of green. The are planted about 2 1/2 feet apart, but with the foilage I have about18 inches. I wanted to put something in that that was lower to the ground and keep some color all summer or most of the summer. I made little blue dots where I can put things. I am considering salvia to the right, but wanted something a little different to the left. ANy ideas? I have walked around and around greenhouses looking forsomething colorful and unique to add some variety there. Should I just plant some annuals like geraniums or petunias or flowering maples?
