my proposed design plan w/photo

Hi--

I posted earlier this year with the below photo. Now I've thought about some ideas and have sketched them out in very rudimentary fashion. (I'm using my son's tablet and it involves extraordinary hand-eye coordination for a klutz like me.) I'm thinking of a tall evergreen on the left--perhaps a columnar chamaecyparis--and a mid-sized flowering shrub tucked into the right corner. I am open regarding the small mounded shrubs that curve out under the windows.

I realize that this is a very simplistic, uninventive design plan--please do not criticize me for that! (I admit I am not into ornate designs and would prefer something simple.) What do you all think? Too too boring? Also--what cultivars would you recommend for Zone 5a (Wisconsin)? They are close to the house, so I think we could defintely go 5b or maybe even 6a.

Thanks for any insights! Kathy
