Van Engelen isn't affiliated with Brecks. You must be thinking of Scheepers, which is owned by the same company as Van Engelen. Anyway, they don't sell any lilies or any other bulbs in the spring, only fall. Elleni, I ordered bulbs a few years ago from Brecks, Brent and Beckys, Blooming Bulb and Bluestone Perennials. The bulbs from Brecks were far better than the ones I got from any of the other sellers that year. All of those other sellers have good reviews at Garden Watchdog, two of them pretty much rave reviews. But the two with the rave reviews sent the sorriest bulbs of all. GW can be very helpful in deciding where to order but it's not infallible.

LOL, I've been guilty of ordering from Spring Hill before, so I'm not surprised. Filipendula rubra, Queen of the Prairie, should be hardy to zone 3, so that might survive - it does pretty well here, but I'm technically in zone 7. It does like water, as I just found out, about 10 years after planting it. IMHO, you should pray that the tradescantia is too tender; you may find yourself ripping it out (along with your hair) in years to come. Here, at least, it's ineradicable. I suppose by "grab bag" they mean "we randomly grab plants and shove them in a bag" - I hope they priced this selection accordingly!

Try a search for "CO oraganic soil" and also Craigs List which currently has about 5 free offers. For free you could rent a truck at $19 and come out well on the cost side. The other option is to fill those planters with leaves, grasses, newspaper and start again for next spring. Perhaps take the plants you have now and put them in pots for this year, if it is early for some cover them with milk bottles or large baggies with holes. We still have 3 weeks for planting most of our veggies. Gardening takes time, we all need the patience for nature to take it's course. Even planning ahead can find nature changing it's direction. If I could have my whole yard done this year it would be wonderful, but reality is this won't happen.....so I remind myself that patience is at the head of the list.
