New Patio and Brick pathway pics

For those of you who have read my postings about "I should have known better" otherwise known as "Grading Gone Wild", here's the finished (but still curing) concrete patio that started this whole thing. We reused the brick pavers from a sinking below deck patio for a new walkway down to the firepit. BTW, all you guys who chastised me for not having a plan will be relieved to know I have a landscape architect coming later this month to advise me on the rest of the project - waterfall, firepit, retaining wall. I surrendered....

Nice, you accepted the my pic's ideas. You need some pics that show the overall yard and waterfall, firepit, retaining wall situation and conditions.Don't too close up.

Such a beautiful spot, Lynn. Very restful and green. It will be interesting to see the ultimate plan that you and the architect come up with. And not to jinx you, but I bet that in your next project, you'll be looking to build a screened-in porch or gazebo to escape the bugs :)

Check my web site to see what I did with broken brick. Go all the way to the bottom of the page under my introduction and click on updating photos. It will be about the 3rd pic over in that section. You will see all the paths I did around my pond with all the broken bricks. I had all of these left over from the families old homeplace. It was the chimneys bricks. lol Anyway I had to dig them out of the soil where they were piled many many years ago and then had to knock off the old cement they were put together with. So I wound up breaking some of them and this is what I used the rest for. I made the walkway out of the others that were whole and I actually like the brokens ones the best believe it or not. Nancy those are my stairs, that pic was taken in fall and this past year all the rain and weather has undermined the stairs and made wobbly, we have to take them all out and fix, so I am going to put them on the outside of the bushes you see on left which will have more drainage nad I can mosaic a path and make terrace gardens here. thats my plan when my lazy butt stops playing with the grandson long enough to work LOL

I'm sorry but I agree with your husband. What you have currently is much nicer looking than what you propose to replace it with. You'll actually enjoy a more usable fireplace much more. If you want a new paver walkway, then get busy DIYing it. It's not that hard except on your back. It's just grunt labor over a summer. But if you're going to pick something like a mixed paver, at least make sure they are all in the same color family and that color works with the house itsef. Your examples are not a great look to emulate.

A few mentioned that this may be slippery. Ceramic tile is slippery when wet. But between the grout lines and the different levels of tile I think it will be minimal. I'll let you know next year. It may take that long to rain! Lady, yes, Lowes carries this tile. I wish they carried more colors. It's so hard to find color! And, you have but to 'yearn' to 'belong'. Chick. I hope I can explain myself here. All cuts are done with the guard on. I covered 2 objects on this diagram. On the Rt is a circle, the LT a turtles head. BL ink shows the object. The 1st cuts are marked in pencil. They are to remove the bulk of unwanted tile (or glass). 2nd cuts are in green. The solid lines are 1 straight cut. The dashes are 2 str, cuts into each other. Making a 'V' cut. Yellow points are sliced off. This leaves only the inside curve left. It's done with many small cuts. 1 into the curve, then UP the curve. In small degrees. Once it gets to this point you're making such small cuts that you can pick the tile up at an angle and move it around on the blade smoothing out the curve. It's much easier to do than to explain. So dump some water in your saw and try it!

What can be seen of the curved walk looks pretty good. It looks like there's a little funkiness going on with the steps arrangement and connection to the deck. But that could be worked with. Nothing frightening. Glad to hear you have LA on the way. It will help.

What is a mini perlite mountain? I googled it and found soil mixes, no mountains.

It is made with perlite,sand and cement.water-holding capacity is good.can plant some shrubs.DIY?

I'm confused about the concrete patio. The patio slopes? Like, a lot? The lower door isn't to code, anywhere. Why was there an 8" slope put in on the patio?

But I like the walk! It needs to be tied into the patio better--the cement extension dies awkwardly at a step, and it looks like a weirdly unlevel transition that might not be a code violation, but it's sure not good design.

It's just the photo. Patio slopes a few inches, just enough for water runoff. The door was existing and we replaced the french door with a solid one bc this is the door to the tool room/utility room. There is another door to the den that isn' showing in the photo. The top few steps were existing, but I agree that they look a bit odd bc they aren't the same height. Our plan - ultimately - is to screen the porch. Next stop is the retaining wall. I'm starting a new thread for it.

The patio has a step where the lower door is. And unless your siding is sideways, the patio has a big slope left to right. (It's one board, not 2 like I thought.) Still not to code. And the patio is supposed to slope away from the house, not along the house.

Reyesuela, Your comments have me worried now. When I get up in the morning I'm going to take my long level out there. The patio is supposed to be sloping away from the house - NOT along the house. Maybe I should run the hose on the patio?

Well, you can stand in the yard and look and see the siding. See how more siding is revealed as it goes to the left. Either the siding and the doors are placed out of level or the patio is....

Try the level. Line it up to the threshold of the door, too. Something's not level, though from the pics, I can't say for sue whether it's the house or the porch.
