Return of the Celery?

Last summer I planted one plant of "cut and come again" type celery. I wish I could tell you more specific information about this plant, but it was given to me as an extra a friend wasn't able to plant and it didn't come with a lot of specifics. I live in zone 5, and although I do have a good layer of mulch in my garden, we had an exceptionally cold winter. Well, last weekend I went out to my garden to start cleaning up for the new season, when I was shocked and amazed to see that celery plant pushing up some new green growth! I have never grown this particular type of celery before, but it was my understanding that celery is not supposed to come back the next year, especially in my cold climate. Does anyone out there have some insight on this? Does anyone know if I leave this plant in the ground, will it produce celery again this year, or is it best just to dig it up?
