need help for new const. north/east faceing side?

Hi,

Ill try to post pictures, so please dont give up on me. Anyway this is my problem & its a slight slope. The weeds & small hen house are going to get moved but for now it beats looking at "them" then the side of our blank side wall! I have some gooseberry plants Id like to work into this area (they like shade). Im going to have clover instead of grass & Im looking for ma natural/inviting look. Maybe a pathway & a small stone wall? ANY HELP very much appreciated!!!

Mastino, I've got a few questions;
The bottom photo represents the area you're concerned with?

Is that a stone path on the first photo? and

Is this area a courtyard that is being viewed from a house not in any of the pictures?

Hi Isabella ma,
Yes the bottom picture is the area Im working on first but Id like to get both pictures done this year (Iv got allot on my plate & Im talking lots of small jobs around here).
If u email me I can send u larger pictures Im still not good with posting (sorry). But no the "rock" is actually just a pile of Tx flat rock I bought to do this project. Im actually wanting to make a patch were the rock is so YES it a going to be a stone walkway. Here is a picture of what I "envisioned" the side picture to look like. The yellow is the rock walkway & I left the Bantams coop for interest & when I finish up with their house it should look nice. The blue is a bird bath. I still have no clue (at all) what to do with the back corner in the 1st picture.

50-ish, if you find one at 45 or so that you like don't discount it just because of the LRV number. Unless there are standards/color specs involved, LRV is more like a loosey-goosey guideline, not a formula or prescription to follow. And, yes, colors with a higher LRV number have better odds of delivering the light and airy atmosphere you're after vs. darker colors. A dramatically shifting paint color has more to do with its own metameric tendencies vs. the quality of light. A rule of thumb is if your color stays consistent in appearance when viewed in fluorescent and incandescent lighting, it will *probably* be consistent in any light source. More about north light: North exposure is not direct rays of sunlight. Very different from south light beaming into your kitchen almost all day long, or the morning sun bursting through your east facing bedroom windows at the break of day. North light isn’t necessarily reflecting or bouncing off of something else to get inside the space, it’s just that when your windows face north you don’t have actual, direct beams of light entering fenestration. North light is the most balanced from a spectral distribution perspective, it has a nice, even collection of all the wavelengths though it tends to be heavier in the blue range. Because it’s a balanced bundle of wavelengths and also because it is not a direct beaming, or spot-light effect of natural light, north facing rooms are ideal for any kind of artistic work environment. The pronounced blue of north light is a factoid that's been blown way out of proportion. Blogosphere has taken that one single aspect of north light and made a huge deal out of it - I guess because it makes a good 'sound bite' or something. I dunno. But it's kind of a dumb thing to hyper-focus on. Heavy in blue doesn't mean it's gray. Doesn't necessarily mean it's cool either. North light is simply indirect light that's balanced over the visible spectrum as a whole but with a pronounced bump of blue.

Tough, standard landscaping shrubs that can take either full sun or full shade would be best. You can add visual interest via foliage texture (and that lasts year round) and put the color of flowers elsewhere. Boxwood, Nandina 'Firepower' (which has a lot of foliage color--it reds up in cooler months--and is reliably short enough to live below windows) come immediately to mind, but I'm sure there will be a lot more suggestions. Most satisfying results come from working with conditions in each location of the garden, not against them.

Looks like you will be building a nice home. There is currently a bit too much going on with the finish materials. You could do all brick. But I would also entertain leaving the right side as is and then just leaving the rest of the house with the water table band. It is a nice accent. Then simplify some of the other details, like do away with the shakes just use the clapboard siding with good trim details. We would also remove the metal roofing from the upper most roof areas. Simple and clean usually speaks the loudest.

You can use gray with north light, but it has to have a lavender undertone. You can also use red with north light, but choose one with a raspberry undertone.

Yell kind of, the guest house is to the left corner of the picture. Were living in it till the house is done. So Im so tiered of looking at the blank wall & weeds. Other then that no houses for a mile in either direction. Thats why Id like a natural design (were in the middle of the woods). I want to use edible plants whenever possible (for my pet Bantams) & plants (like clover) for water conservation & also is good forage. Im also putting in a small koi pond this spring (3,000 gal.) Its going to be next to the window of the guest house bottom left of the photo.
Anyway the Back end of is a south facing wall & gets lots of sun. All I have planned now is planting clover (I just cant for the life of me envision that side).

Hi Mastino, I'm not a pro or anything, but I will offer you my hard knocks earned knowledge. Try focusing the design on the primary sightlines into the area to be designed. Design the area from how it will be viewed and then see how the pathways, trees, and other items will be viewed from the other angles.
