how is the well cased ... modern or antique? i am of the position.. that roots take advantage of pre-exisiting problems... they do not cause problems ... if your well already has leaky pipes/fittings.. etc ... the tree will find the water ... in what decade???? ... who knows ... ken

Dave, I had as many as 350 different varieties of Fuchsias at one time but that was back in the 80's now I'm at about 150 give or take a few, I'm trying to downsize to 100 but not having much luck LOL. I have about 50 or so in hanging baskets the rest are in pots, these are not grown into show specimens I don't have the space to do this but like to keep as many of the varieties going as I can being they seem to have dropped from favor in recent years and some of the varieties are hard to find. No standards at present but have had them in the past. I did standards both with trailing and bush types. I only have a couple of hardys in the ground at present but have a few in pots ready to be planted out this year. newhostalady, if my experience can be a cautionary tale, then, yes, that is a good thing. But they told me that they'd be dropping all the shingles into the dumpster on the driveway and you see what happened in the back. Get things like bird baths, feeders, pots of plants, etc. safely put away because you don't know for sure where things will land, lol. But a solid roof, ....gotta have it, right? Good luck on yours! Phil, I was just thinking that I should get my windows washed because how much worse can it get now with more ladders out there?.....a roofing nail in your shoe, and ilovetogrow finding nails nine months later, those are both good reasons for me to wear better shoes and get a magnet out there. As the plants die back this fall I'll probably be able to find a lot more. Just today I found a piece of shingle and a nail close to one of the bird baths I was filling. For one moment I thought about how bernd said the nail is good for my soil. Then I imagined hitting that nail with my shovel some day and tossed it in the trash. littlebug5, I understand the apprehension that goes with any projects like this. My DH still thinks we need new gutters, ~sigh~. When they built the decks, I got some of that bright caution tape and bamboo stakes. They managed not to ruin some shrubs I had blocked off that way. Maybe that will work for your cherry tree and hydrangea. Good luck to you, too!

I have several well rooted cuttings of a red fleshed variety of Dragon Fruit (I'm almost positive that it's 'American Beauty'). They have been rooted for over a year and have huge root systems. They will take off right away when planted. I'd like to trade them for some well rooted cuttings of David Austin roses, Old Garden roses, or Lonicera japonica cultivars,....... or seedlings of Wafer Ash (Ptelea trifoliata) , Bee Bee Tree (Tatradium danielli), Shagbark Hickory (Carya ovata), Katsura Tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum or magnificum) or American Beech (Fagus grandifolia).
