The pics seem to cover a much larger area than I can work with, but I do like the evergreen look.
I was hoping someone could make some actual plant variety suggestions, just don't know where to begin. :-)

Enthusiasm should never be suppressed - but wouldn't it be nice to have an instant old growth conifer forest?

My initial thoughts were that you definitely don't want anything blocking sight lines. And snow; we got another 6-8" of snow yesterday on top of the 44" since mid-December. How high will the plow banks get on your main road; how much will get pushed onto any easement you might be developing? Then there are the road salts and grit residue to contend with.

The practicality of the design is also what I was wondering about. Maybe you could use the existing Blue Stars along the road edge however close to the road you'll be planting; they stay low and can probably take the snow load. Don't know about the salt.

I might be more inclined to put garden out where you've now still got grass, and leave a grass apron where your garden currently is, assuming grass would survive life at the road's edge. But I know it's more common to do the layout you have, and perhaps there's a reason for that.

KarinL...Now I think we are getting somewhere, I love the idea of the Blue Stars along the edge. I was wondering where I could move those to look right. The reason for the plantings at the existing site was to keep from mowing around and in tight spots. We don't get much snow here in central Illinois like we use to years ago. So I don't worry much about salt etc. Thank you for your input. I welcome any other ideas you may have. :-)

I would really like to see what the scene is down the drive since it is all part of the picture. I would prefer an evergreen such as a hemlock paired with either a river birch or even nandina. Depending on what's down the driveway, you could use some small crabapple trees or even purple leaf plums or japanese maples on both sides. It's hard to tell what would be appropriate without seeing the entire picture. Dwarf alberta spruce would work as well but are very common. I did see a blue variety that was a knock-out.

I am in zone 5 and have two-car width driveway of 50 ft length. I do not have continuous plantings along the driveway, actually intersperse it with lawn.
On half of the drive way sides I have junipers, a small pine, hostas, roses, and heathers. A little offset I have on one side a burning bush and a red crab apple, on the other a Korean dogwood and althea. The other half of the drive way sides is lawn, which actually can be considered going from one to the other side.

When I blow the snow I blow it on the plantings and the lawn. When a plow is employed, he plows snow on the lawn bands. At the road there is lawn 12 ft up the driveway sides.
