Grieving over end of season and poor summer growth

Anyone find it hard to face the end of the season, when it comes time to chop everything down and prepare for the winter?

I just feel so sad, because this year has been so disappointing for growing cuccumbers, zuccini, okra and the like. Some of my late blooming cosmos didn't bloom. I planted about five zuccini plants, thinking I created one of the worst gardening sins. Out of it got a handful spaced out by a period of weeks. Most of the developing zukes turned yellow and fell off before they bloomed. Squash vine borers took out all our winter squash. (got 4.5 squash total, one per each vine). About two or three Acorn sqash and one Carnival Squash.

Cucumbers didn't start growing until late August. I got about three or four cuccumbers in September, more than I got in the summer.

Has anyone else in the Great Lakes suffered from what was considered a "cold summer" and a drought?
