I hope not I am still planting, all that I have read here says that as long as the grounf ist not frozen and you can still dig it is ok :-) , with the day so short here and working, I hope to get the last in the ground this weekend , I think is better to get them in the ground than to let them dry out jusy laying around somewhere

Berlin is much warmer than anywhere in Maine, but if you are lucky enough to have unfrozen ground then get them in quick. Even if there is a frozen crust, you could break through it to plant down where the soil hasn't frozen yet. It might be a good idea to mulch them if nights are very cold, just to stop the bulbs freezing before they can establish.

If you just can't get them in the ground, pot them up and keep them somewhere that is either frost-free (but below 50F) or constantly below freezing but protected from the worst cold. Repeated freeze-thaw can damage potted bulbs and they can be killed temperatures that would be OK if they were six inches down in the ground. In spring you can bring them out for a nice display wherevere you want, even bury the pots in a bed if you want.

My tulip bulbs are still in the post they came in.....in a room that stays cool. The weather right now is 19F and will stay cold (maybe up to 40F for a day or two). If I keep them in the pot of dirt will they bloom come spring and I start to water them outside??? I've never had any luck with tulips:( !!!!!!!!!

A friend gave me a batch of fancy mixed Narcissus bulbs . I have two options. Using potting mix, I can plant these in a container, or plant them on top of the soil and heap enough potting soil over top to cover to proper depth, then lay hardware cloth over them to prevent curious rodents and varmints from digging. The bulbs are in great shape, not dried out or rotted.

i had bulbs that i forgot to plant in the fall. I went outside yesterday to plant them, ground is frozen solid. We have had below freezing wheather for awhile now. I decided to plant them in big pots, than seed over them, watered, put them outside for winter sowing. alliums, tulips and crocus. Hope they come up.

Have never had narcissus eaten by anything - they are poisoous. Daffodils really should be planted early as they make root growth in fall but tulips can go in at the last minute before the ground freezes hard. We're having a thaw now so maybe you can slide those bulbs in the ground - otherwise I'd seal in a heavy plastic bag and put in the crisper tray of the fridge. And don't keep apples in the same tray. They can be planted as soon as the ground thaws out in spring and will flowr but late.

if the ground is frozen you can just keep them in a cold area (garage is good) until the thaw. I don't put mine in pots, just leave them in the bag they came in. They will bloom a little later than normal, but I have had good results this way.

I bought some daff. bulbs a couple of months ago but due to a death haven't done anything with them yet.They have been in a Walmart bag on my back porch. I have never planted bulbs before. We have been in a heat wave for a couple of days(70's) and have had a lot of warmer than normal weather all fall and winter. I don't know whether to put them in the ground (I am not sure where I want them) and transplant them when the come up..if they do! or put them in a large container etc.....If I put them in a container do I just leave it on my back deck and let them bloom there or should I put it in the garage etc???? I know nothing about gardening but want to learn.

I'm thankful all my bulbs are planted now. I finished a couple weeks ago. The ground is finally starting to freeze, and I need to start winter-sowing my perennial seeds!
