Beauregard Sweet Potato

Happy New Year, this was my first season growing sweet potatoes, Beauregards to be exact. The plants I haven't harvested have died back to the ground, I haven't dug them up. Can this be a permanent sweet potato bed and will new shoots and vines grow up from it this Spring or should I dig up all the old plant material and start with fresh slips? This is just for home use, I'm not trying to grow commercial yields, if they'll keep going by themselves every year I'd like to leave the old bed but if they won't produce I'll remove them and replace, I'd appreciate any advice, thanks.
