Cabbage--Convince Me to Try Again

Relative newbie to veggies here and last year was a first for my SQF. Had pretty good results with most stuff (tomatoes, peppers, beans, lettuce, carrots), but my fall planting of cabbage "Gonzales" was a disaster. Cabbage worms, worms, worms! Tried picking them off by hand, but finally gave up after the small crop was decimated. Problem was the plants were too small to even spray with insecticidal soap.

I understand these cabbage worms are the larvae of a butterfly which were all over my plants in the fall. If I try WS some of these now, will I have a better chance of fending off the critters in spring rather than fall?
