Im interested in your naked lady bulbs. How many do you have?

Lycoris Radiata is what I've been told. It was on my land when I bought the place and SURPRISED me this year with a display. (My weed whacker hadn't been nearly as active and so the Lily had a chance). Here is the info the nice lady sent me on it: Lycoris radiata var. radiata Red Spider Lily This bulb was first discovered by Herbert in about 1850 and is native to Japan and China. It was brought to the United States soon after the Civil War and rapidly spread westward by southern gardeners. Ours are the true heirloom form (triploid vigor) and not the newer (dipoid forms) recently imported from Japan. They are hysteranthous (flowering-before leaves appear) and the large red flowers appear on naked stems in September. They are one of the bulbs which actually likes water during their dormancy period and failure to provide it can result in failure to bloom. The showy display of the spider lily lasts for weeks, and once the flowers fade, the foliage lasts all winter. The hysteranthous (flowers prior to leaves appearing) blooms can be seen from great distances and are long lasting as cut flowers. They prefer partial shade and well-drained garden soil. They are fast-growing and quickly form large bulb clumps that can be separated and planted. Another southern garden gem we love to grow in our gardens. I have had naked ladies in the spring, bright red Amaryllis in summer, loads of red Lycoris in late summer along with Iris and a few perinneals. Would love to post a picture of the Red Lycoris in full bloom,from my gallery on my phone but don't know how on here. Any suggestions? Also my naked ladies did wonderfully last spring, but only about half came up this year. Any reason for that? The only thing I can think of is that I had an invasion of snails and slugs, finally got rid of them and now have little frogs, which are great and Anoli lizzards (geckos) and they eat all the bad stuff. How do I encourage the naked ladies to come back? They were multiplying then only about half came up this year??? Help!

You're welcome... that's all I can think of off hand... we have several barn cats that do the critter hunting, and for the larger critters like squirrels, my husband does a little hunting to help keep the population at a reasonable number, and out of my gardens. Depending on where you live, whether urban or rural, some of the animal population can be devastating to a garden. Between our dogs, barn cats, and my husband, our gardens are fairly safe... the only things I've seen digging this spring are the squirrels, and there are only a few. They've been mainly digging across the street, and that's an old cemetery with walnut trees... hopefully, the squirrels will find all the food they need over there!
