HAVE: Red Surprise Lilies (Naked Ladies)

These will be ready to ship as soon as they finish blooming. Have RED Surprise Lilies (naked ladies)... Not keeping any of these. When they are gone, they are GONE.

Willing to trade these for any plants, cuttings, bulbs, shrubs, etc that bloom PURPLE.

Lycoris Radiata is what I've been told. It was on my land when I bought the place and SURPRISED me this year with a display. (My weed whacker hadn't been nearly as active and so the Lily had a chance).

Here is the info the nice lady sent me on it:

Lycoris radiata var. radiata
Red Spider Lily

This bulb was first discovered by Herbert in about 1850 and is native to Japan and China. It was brought to the United States soon after the Civil War and rapidly spread westward by southern gardeners. Ours are the true heirloom form (triploid vigor) and not the newer (dipoid forms) recently imported from Japan. They are hysteranthous (flowering-before leaves appear) and the large red flowers appear on naked stems in September. They are one of the bulbs which actually likes water during their dormancy period and failure to provide it can result in failure to bloom. The showy display of the spider lily lasts for weeks, and once the flowers fade, the foliage lasts all winter. The hysteranthous (flowers prior to leaves appearing) blooms can be seen from great distances and are long lasting as cut flowers. They prefer partial shade and well-drained garden soil. They are fast-growing and quickly form large bulb clumps that can be separated and planted. Another southern garden gem we love to grow in our gardens. Recommended for growing in zones 7-9.

When to transplant Surprise Lilies (Naked Ladies)?

I have had naked ladies in the spring, bright red Amaryllis in summer, loads of red Lycoris in late summer along with Iris and a few perinneals. Would love to post a picture of the Red Lycoris in full bloom,from my gallery on my phone but don't know how on here. Any suggestions? Also my naked ladies did wonderfully last spring, but only about half came up this year. Any reason for that? The only thing I can think of is that I had an invasion of snails and slugs, finally got rid of them and now have little frogs, which are great and Anoli lizzards (geckos) and they eat all the bad stuff. How do I encourage the naked ladies to come back? They were multiplying then only about half came up this year??? Help!

The flowers must have just faded just like mine. You can dig them up now and have her plant them soon after arrival. They should be planted with about 1 - 2" of soil to cover the top of the bulb. They will not bloom if planted deeper. And tell her to leave them alone as long as she possibly can. I found that they sulked for several years after transplanting before they made an appearance.

I have the pink surprise lillie (naked lady) I have never heard of the red, would love to have some. I have purple passion vine and the seeds from purple clematis vine.....sat
