Al's Soil Mixes and Fetilization Quesitons

I can't seem to find some ingredients for Al's Succulent Mix, basically the crushed granite or turkey grit. The grit is crushed oyster shells or stone dust. So which is better to use as a substitute for the crushed granite? Stone dust or crushed oyster shells or fish tank gravel?

In Al's mixes is fir bark always interchangable with pine bark?

Also, I have Miracle-Gro 24-8-16 water soluable plant food with micronutrients. Do I still need a Soluble Trace Element Mix (STEM)?

Al's Succulent Mix often calls for coarse silica sand. I can only find fine silica sand. What is a good alternative? Could I use a little more of each of the turface and bark to make up the difference?
