Homemade Seed 'Tape' ?

I always seem to have problems getting the spacing correct on my root crops. Because I plant a fairly large area of them, it's just way too time-consuming to stand there and plant them seed by seed in the spring, when there are many other chores screaming for my free time.

So, I usually broadcast-sow them over the area, then try to rake them in carefully. No matter what, I always end up with uneven spacing and usually "clumps" that must be thinned.

I had the idea just now to take single-ply toilet paper or perhaps something much wider like wrapping tissue (since I plant in wide blocks, not individual rows) and carefully arrange the seed by hand on it at the proper spacing, using some sort of adhesive to keep it attached, and then lay this out of the bed, top-dress with soil or compost, thus eliminating the spacing issues. I could do this as an evening project in the winter, I imagine a couple of evenings would do it. This would make the spring planting MUCH easier and faster.

I envision having something that looks like this when done:
