22 Galon garbage cans for yews?

Hi,

I am new to this forum and have never posted. I have been gardening for many years but have never been much into containers -- but it's going to be my new thing this spring.

I have an old, mostly unused driveway in the back of the house which breaks up my border. I want to place large planters with yews in them -- but they have to be moveable since the driveway is actually used about once a year for large deliveries.

I have never planted anything big in a container, so am a bit nervous. I also can't spend a bunch of $$$ on the containers.

I noticed that Home Depot has 22 galon Rubbermaid garbade cans on wheels for about $ 10 each. I thought I could place these in back with the yews, and put more attractive pots in the front.

Does this seem like a doable thing? Is there any reason *not* to plant yews in plastic garbage cans? How deep does the soil need to be? (I was thinking I could put styrofoam or plastic peanuts in the bottom to make it lighter.

Thanks,

Shadey
