@ontnative I'm with you on the fact that rarely do tulips make good displays, if any, following their first year. The Darwin tulips I one year continued to bloom as well the second year. I've still got a patch of them that bloomed last spring(year 4). Looks like it might've been their last. Alliums tended to decline in bloom(year 3) so that's why I dug these ones up...to find them way deeper than originally planted. Probably the reason they gave only foliage & weak blooms if any. ...I'm tempted to say I'm astonished, but I would pay that for roses or some other rarity.... so who am I to judge..?.... I prefer Crocus's though...I have to say...flowering a little later as they do, just as I poke my head out the door for the season... ...I'm up near Wisbech...which is quite nice, they have good plant auctions and open gardens.... lots of nurseries too.... the one at West Acre east of King's Lynn is always worth a visit...it leaves me bankrupt but never mind... ... my best local I would say is this one below.... in case you're ever travelling through the area... ...Rachaels Plant Outlet at Tamar nurseries... they sell retail at wholesale prices and I'm always picking something up.... at West Walton, near Wisbech.... I think we're very luck to have this... amongst a number of others.... Rachael's... ..I also consult this page rather a lot....so much to peruse... Rare plants... ...I know you like species roses... I don't tend to grow these as they don't suit my current garden, but 'Fruhlingsmorgen', 'Complicata' and 'Stanwell Perpetual'...would be 3 of that ilk - wildish looking... that I've enjoyed so much in the past.... and would have again if I had the room.... I grew them in Cornwall... ..kind regards...

An update. The vast majority of the garlic mustard is gone...what a job that was! My DH even began to help me, it was that bad. A photo of the plant that looked like lamb's ear or rose campion. The grey colour doesn't seem to be as predominant. Aconitum (Monkshood) I don't think this is Trollius because there aren't any buds. Centaurea montana next to a poppy. The 'oregano plant' One small bed before and after photo. There are six beds this size and a large bed about 20' wide by 40' long, plus about 15 shrubs in their own beds and all of these beds were overgrown with garlic mustard. You can see one edge of the large bed in the photo below and a few of the shrubs in the background.

Here is a photo of CFL bulbs; you can find them single or multi bulb pack. Look at all the data; K is often shown in colorful bar (lower right):You can find them made by Philips, in this case Utilitech. You could also get LED bulbs, they use even less electricity but are more $ to buy. I would keep them on for number of hours, sound like there isn't much good light available. BTW, even if using a typical desk or floor lamp that are rated for max 60W bulbs, you can use these safely since they use much less than incandescent bulbs.
