Daffodil bulbs, storing

This year my daffodils went totally nuts, I have a ton of them... Well only about 15 pounds of bulbs but they were way too crowded so I dug them up... I have enough of them to plant them all over both the front and back yards this fall... So far all I've done is let the tops dry out, gently pulled the bulbs off and placed them in a plastic bucket... Don't yell at me, I know it's not the best way to keep them, that's why I'm posting... lol

What's the best way to store them till fall??

I may even put some aside for the perennial plant exchange this fall.. Any special way to store those?

Mesh bags (like the ones onions come in) are great for storage. Paper shopping bags work almost as well. Store them at around 70F for the summer; 60F or so (e.g., cellar temp) in the early fall. Humidity in the same range that people enjoy (30-50%) is best.

Plant in the fall, probably in October in your area.

Protect from mousies...and keep the sacks visible. It can be quite easy to forget where they are...sigh.

If you can just move the totes, set them somewhere out of the way that is cool and dry: a closet, the basement, etc. and leave them there until planting time in the fall. Otherwise, dig them out of the totes, cut off the dead foliage and store them inside where it's cool in an airy place: onion bags are ideal. The main thing is cool and dry.

Actually they would be better off in shallow layers in shallow cardboard boxes...think 'flats', like canned good come in. Then the flats should not be stacked. Or just hang the mesh bags. Beware, some mesh looking bags are actually plastic bags, cut to look like actual mesh bags. Don't use them if they appear to be plastic. I use some plastic bins, but they have a grid on the bottom and all 4 sides and have no tops on them. They are in shallow layers in the bins and I turn (stir them up, or flip the bags) every so often. They are on my carport where they get good air and are kept dry. Good luck!

Beware of using bone meal if you have doggies that will have access to that area. I once planted tulips, placing some bone meal in each planting hole. My 3 furbabies did not rest until they had every newly planted tulip dug up, trying to get to 'the bone'. Just try and keep your bulbs as cool as possible, and then plant asap once the area is ready. I knew there was a reason for saving all those mesh bags... LOL

Now I just have to remember to plant them... Perhaps I'll create a new wallpaper for my desktop, telling me where I stored the daffodil bulbs and when to plant them... LOL
