Well, they freeze when planted in the ground, don't they? I don't know whether there might be some advantage to putting them in containers of soil in your garage/basement ... for 72 bulbs, that'd be a lot of containers. But, if you're contemplating throwing them out, why not throw them out into the soil in spring and see what happens? What's to lose? Cultivars seen here overbear like dairy cows with huge udders. The horticultural selection is out of balance, just like the cows, and needs to be milked so it can continue on to make a large enough bush to bear enough fruits later to be worthwhile. Once the specimen is up to size it doesn't matter if new top growth is minimized by heavy fruit production.

I buy peel and stick on labels at the dollar store and write the name and sometimes the color and height on the label and stick it on the cell pack or flat that I'm going to be planting in before I plant the seeds. I sit down at the kitchen table with the labels and seed packages before I go to plant and write out all the names so they are ready to stick on. I usually do this when I'm having my morning coffee. I use an ultra fine sharpie marker so that even if the label gets wet the ink stays. The labels stick just fine to any container and if I reuse the container I just stick another label over the other one or try to peel it off often without success You could really do that at any time and store the labels with the seeds so that when you are ready to plant you have them. I learned long ago that the memory is faulty when you are staring at a bunch of containers all the same. I used to keep a planting book but I found bundling up the seed packages and securing with an elastic with a slip of paper or label with the date works just as well. I sow all the seeds according to planting date so there are usually multiple sowings at once

Sharon, What exciting news! Katie is such a beautiful and sweet young woman and her wonderful young man is a lucky guy. Congrats to all and I do hope the wedding planning doesn't drive you all mad. hee hee So, you're not losing a daughter....you're gaining a son. When our son got married this summer, we gained the daughter I'd always wanted and she has fit into our family perfectly and added immeasurable joy to our lives.
