It may be one of those quirks of garden soil - like 'why do my mother's Lachenalias flourish and mine cower?' (She has a silty loam and mine has more clay even though we live near each other.) Or drainage and aspect. Or feeding later in spring with a mix that has more potash to help set the flowers for the coming season. (Tomato fertiliser can be useful.)

Hi! You poor thing, want to grow roses, eh? ;-)) You only want to cut off the blooms once it doesn't look good (what "doesn't look good" is up to you). Clip or snap off just below the bloom. Your new plants need all of the leaves they can get now, so no "hard pruning" for the rest of the season. No cutting off "old wood", no pruning down to the soil level (you'll never do this at all, unless the canes are totally black and dead). After blooming, you can fertilize. Fish emulsion would be good. You can try Espoma Rose-tone, but some of it won't break down in containers (I still use it anyway). Miracle Gro is OK too, but some people like to stay away from synthetic fertilizers (roses don't know the difference). Good luck!

Yeah, EQII, the wormies pretty much love some mycelium. I think it causes...if you can fathom it....even more frenzied feeding & the ensuing orgies. Both of which we appreciate a great deal. I've seen worms slink backwards while chowing down on 'shrooms that reminded me of Michael Jacksons' moonwalking. How can I tell they're slinking backwards, you ask? If you gotta ask, don't ask. A great project is starting a worm bin without worms but cultivating a crop of 'shrooms. Give them a head start then introduce the wormies. It is AWESOME to watch. Hi Posierosie - Have you done this before and been able to see the result the next year? I have not done as much moving of bulb as I wanted to because of the old advice to wait until the foliage yellows. It never fails, I miss the window, getting busy with other things and the next thing you know, I turn around and the foliage is missing and I wonder where they were. [g] A few times I have dug them up with a large root ball and potted them up and then replanted them in the fall. I suppose that makes more work for myself too. So looking at the link, to what you were doing, it almost looks like you are shaking the bulb out of it's rootball and planting them bare root at that point. I would normally attempt to take as large a rootball as I could and disturb it as little as possible.
