Need yellow annuals for shade

We have morning sun, until around noon, then shade. I usually have impatiens in a certain bed and they do great, but would like to find something YELLOW for a change, that would tolerate shade and do well. Is there such out there???

Impatiens auricoma (sold under the name of 'Jungle Gold') has yellow flowers. Pansies will flower in shade.

There are some hosta that are very golden/yellow hostas....perhaps one of them would work for you?

I've been at my current place now for 7 years, and only get afternoon sun, starting from 1pm to dusk. I have all planters on the back deck with this kind of sunlight, and even though it's full on sun for that many hours, I can't get snapdragons to flower or petunias to flourish (amongst the sun/part sun flowers I tried). My neighbor, who only gets morning sun, grows almost anything she wants/doesn't want! So, from what I've observed in my envy that if you can get a few hours of morning sun, with the exception of very strong sun lovers, you can grow whatever you like. I would give zinnias a try, and I've seen cosmos UNDER TREES flourish, because they get that early morning sun. I have also noticed that a local shop had some nice dark purple vincas in window boxes that did well and that only got morning sun. Only shade plants work for me ever, plus browallias, torenias, lobelias, fushias and coleus. Surprisingly, sage was very happy, so that may be something to consider as a textural thing. Post a picture at the end of the season for us!

After reading this in more detail....I have more comments... I still love impatiens....but they do need a certain amount of sunlight. My deck is so shady that even impatiens won't bloom....not will begonias. I grow green plants ivies, wantering Jew...Tahitian bridal veil etc. I* have several pots of impatiens and begoina that I rotate in and out of the sunnier spot....and that gives me blooming plants on my deck. If I had that bench round a tree and the planters in the corners....I would fill them chock full of impatiens on the 2 sides with the most sun, and have a bit of bacopa trailing down...and maybe some heliochrysm in that lovely lime green. For the less bright spots I would fill the planter with more heliochrysm....and maybe some of that curry plant ( tall, gray soft pointy leaves) and get some red leaved coleus un there. As for the oval bed that had the rock on top....I would think of perennials....hosta, astilbe, thalactrim, pulmoneria, browalia, brunera....and impatiens for a bit of color.... Linda C

Yellow corydalis, which is the common every-day one, so it should not be hard to find. I get all of mine by mail order with no trouble. It makes a lovely ferny mound, and the little flowers are bright yellow and stand out well in the shade. The foliage is a soft grey-green. Related to bleeding heart. You will have to check to see if you have to treat it as an annual in your zone, but then the impatiens would be an annual for you also... Jackie

I don't want anything in exchange, but I have a lot of seeds you may be interested in, and would like to send to you. I see you want delphiniums and lupines. I was in the feed store a few evenings ago, and they were tossing all the 1914 seeds. Some of them would never grow here in the first place....like the lupines and the delphiniums. Too hot and humid and alkaline. Would you like to have them? It is several packets of each and you are welcome to share with whoever. I didn't want to see them tossed out. Also, there are some white annuals...like Alyssum, "Carpet of Snow" and Baby's Breath. I only see one packet of Allyssum but several of Baby's Breath. I also have several packets of Shasta Daisy, if you would like some of those. *Looking at your trade page again, I see you have Baby's Breath....but the one I have doesn't look to be a double, from the picture on the packet. I also can send you some Columbine and Egg Plant. I didn't get a lot of vegetable seeds, but I do have a bunch of Wax Beans. They must not be very popular here...I don't think any of those sold. ;) You are welcome to those if you want them. I was just going to grow a few on my fence just to see how they look. Going back to Busy Lizzies, there's a new-ish range out called 'Sunkissed', including 'Sunkissed Apricot' and 'Sunkissed Lemon'.

Oh, and Begonia can take some shade.

Impatiens Fusion Glow. They are yellow. I needed some yellow for my shady north side of the house. My entry garden has lots of yellow flowers to complement the house colors. However, most of the yellow flowers are for sun. That was fine for the parts that faced east and south but the walkway passes the garage to the entry which is on the north side. I was worried I couldn't find flowers to plant there. I just happened upon the yellow impatiens in Walmart.

Or mimulus? Can't they grow in shade? They're pretty cool. Nasturtiums! They'll grow in shade. There are several different yellow or yellow/cream nasturtiums out there.

mimilus? What's that? That rings a bell. I got a vague recollection of seeing it at the nursery. Can you describe it please? I second yellow/cream nasturtiums but I'm not sure how much shade they will take. I have mine in full sun right now and their are blooming like crazy. But its not really all that hot yet where I live. Do you grow yours in full shade?

I agree, mimulus is good for shade, but... they come in yellow?! I've only seen pink/purple/white. Must Google!

Vinelover, mimulus is also called monkey flower. It's cool! I've seen solid yellow, both soft yellow and bright yellow, and yellow with red splotches in the throat. And true, most people plant nasturtiums in full sun (the packages say to do so) but they grow like crazy down at a creek near my house that gets nearly all day shade. Some of the leaves are as big as grapefuits! They're good eats, too; kinda peppery in salads.

Tuberous begonias 'NonStop' variety come in yellow and do nicely in the shade.

Monkey flower. Stunning, attracts hummers. Park seed wholesale is where I got mine. This plant has the wow factor.
