Thanks! I currently have a 16x12 garden. I was thinking of adding 4' to make it 16x16, and using the room created there to add a row of asparagus.... The fence I put up last year was that plastic green stuff, and it sucks. I need something higher and sturdier. Just don't know if I'll have time to kill all the grass, till that ground, take out old fence posts, add more fence posts, get new fencing, install new fencing.... etc, etc, etc..... so that might all have to wait until next year. That doesn't even count the fact that I currently have U posts (whereas I think I was supposed to use T-posts) that are about 4 1/2' off the ground, so if the metal fencing isn't sturdy enough to support itself, say, 2' past the top of the post.... I'd need to put ALL new posts in....

Not a stupid question, actually. Coleus will prefer to root under warmer conditions than outdoors in Oregon, although if this were done later in the season, once the weather had reliably warmed up to stay above 55F or 60F at night, then Coleus will readily root outdoors in bright shade protected from wind. This time of year, definitely you would get better/faster results if done indoors or in a warm greenhouse. Most plants will tend to root more quickly under warming/warm temps than under cooler winter conditions or height of summer when heat and dryer air make keeping the humidity levels favorable is more difficult. So late spring and early fall tend to be ideal outdoor temperature ranges for optimum rooting with least moisture/heat stress.

Hi! Just a quick note on planting times for daylilies..I have had a lot of luck with planting in the Fall also; it's a great time to get good deals at the garden centers, and also works out well when I need to divide and transplant, as I'm not so busy as in the Spring! Just do the usual cutting-back of the foliage, and be sure they get enough moisture before the ground freezes. The plants should be well-established by Spring, and you should get flowers, depending on the size of the scape. I have ordered online with success, but my favorite place to visit locally (I live between Rochester and Buffalo)is a place in Shelby called Cottage Gardens. They have a website also; just Google them..Happy gardening!
