Our shelf and low stainless backsplash came with the Garland (prior to being rebadged as Bluestar) range. We purchased a "quilted" SS piece that goes up to the hood. Our shelf houses a pepper grinder, teapot, mortar & pestle and simmer plate, it's also useful for a slow, not-too-hot-to-touch warming of plates when the oven is on (and when you, ahem, remember to put the plates up there). I also stick the tea kettle up there when I need all four burners. Ours looks lower than the one in the first pic, and it's not too high to be functional, but even the kid in our house is over 5'8" so YMMV. Check with a kitchen place for the SS backsplash, ours was part of a display that was taken down when the pattern was updated, but I know you can order them. Some range manufacturers have shelves that can be purchased aftermarket. Good luck, sandyponder

I'm not sure, Greenhaven, but I was lead to believe they were. I live in the Chicago area, and we have 2 IKEAs. When I wanted the Numerar last year, one store didn't have it and alluded to it being discontinued. They looked up the other store, which had just 2 left, so I hustled across town to get it. The beech and birch Numerar are still on their Web site, though, so perhaps they're keeping it. I hope so. It's such a great product. I've used it in a few areas of my home--a basement kitchenette (the oak, purchased about 5 years ago, but no longer available), and then a beech island and shelving in my kitchen. I did see the wood-covered particle board counter while I was there. It's OK, but had I not been able to get the Numerar, I would have ordered from Boos. In hindsight, I probably should have given Boos my business, as they are a long-time Illinois company that deserves some support for remaining in this wretched state. But I digress.

Very classy and distinctive, and appears to be well-built out of heavier gauge metal. While I find light fixtures to often be overpriced, I think that particular one (at about $900) does not seem to be unreasonable. Since the manufacturer is a brand name known for high quality, the likelihood that you are going to find this somewhere else for more than half off is remote, unless it gets discontinued and you find a deal. You don't say what your intended purpose is for this fixture, but I will point out that it uses a single 60W bulb, so if this is for use in an area where you need more light, you should think about that.
