Adding Photos for I.D.
Comments (7)I lived in South Florida, most recently Palm Beach for over twenty years and have never seen this plant. Lots of palms and manicured hedges, etc. but never this. Well hopefully it is not very much a purchased plant in Florida so that is why you didn't see it in landscapes. But invasives can be sneaky. Not all invasives are smothering monsters like Kudzu. Some quietly creep in on bird droppings, growing in natural areas, parks and abandoned roadsides until suddenly their presence is noticeable. From what I've heard regarding Nandina in Florida, the problem is in natural areas, particularly in moist conditions. There it is listed as an "aquatic" pest because of it's ability to take over in those areas. I hope you enjoy living in Georgia now. Lately it is hot enough to SEEM like Florida!...See MoreWhat 's making EE's flop...added photos
Comments (5)At first I was hoping someone would answer your question because I was thinking I had the same problem. However after seeing the photos I would say, IMHO, that your plants look just fine and the bottom 'floppies' are normal. I just cut them off when they start looking ragged. I have an EE that the entire plant was flopping and I thought it was getting plenty of water. I dug around a bit in the soil and determined that it was not - the water there had been draining too fast. I have amended, watered, and the plant popped right back. I cannot remember the name of the first EE in your picture but I had both that one and the Black Magic in the shade. This year I moved them both into the sun and the improvement in color is amazing. I do have to remember to keep them well watered though....See MoreAdding photos, or is it just me?
Comments (2)It's not you, it's the way the gardenweb uploader is written. It resizes whatever you upload to a width of 640px. The problem as I see it, is that the image gets resized to 640px width regardless of whether or not it needs it. Even a very small image gets blown up(and possibly distorted) when it didn't really need resized in the first place. It seems that the only way around it for now it to host the image on a third party image hosting site such as Photobucket, ImageShack, or other. I'm a do-it-yourselfer so host my own. Here's a tall skinny toothpick hosted by myself: and the same toothpick hosted by gardenweb, prepare to scroll :)...See MoreLa Reine's leaves sadly yellow (Photos added!)
Comments (10)Well, mine is a found rose, from an old Santa Barbara home ... so there may well be differences. I have three separate roses "of the family of 'La Reine'. BUT the situation applies. It's pretty hard to be sure without a closer look, but if you look on the underside of the leaf, is there a teeny bright orange "dot"? If so, that is rust ... a fungal disease to which 'La Reine' can be subject. I find it mostly shows up on older leaves, so I just remove them ... (Others would spray with one fungicide or another -- but we don't spray.) If there ISN'T orange under there, this is a different fungus. Hard to diagnose without a closer look. I'll see what I can find to illustrate....See MoreUser
