Synthroid and menopause
Comments (10)My experience has been like Jusula. I am aware of the issues, particularly with Synthyroid or the generic levothyroxine. Armour thyroid is a natural product made from pig thyroid glands. It is more difficult to get, and there could be issues with it just as with synthyroid (even dosing, contamination, other constituencies, etc.) It's important to have regular blood tests, I have to have one every six months as my doctor will not continue my prescription without that. I've tried to get her to go a little longer due to the expense of the test, but she convinced me to keep getting tested frequently. Your thyroid dosing needs can go up and down in menopause. Get copies of your results so you know what your doctor is doing. I've been on thyroid medication for almost 20 years and it made an immediate and dramatic improvement in my health. I didn't even realize how bad I was until I started on the medication and started to feel so much better. Thyroid can affect a lot of your body's systems. Still, don't just take it blindly, check your levels and dosage and keep up on what is happening with your body. Also, I take a vit. C, Vit. D and calcium citrate and magnesium mix at night, and take my thyroid in the morning on an empty stomach like the bottle says. It does interfere with some vitamin absorption so take supplements and time your medications according to how they interact. Good luck! Also, thyroid is no magic bullet. It should help if you truly have a problem, so try it and see what happens and just keep educating yourself and working on your problems until you find what works for you. There's no one way to health since people are so biochemically diverse....See MoreOrganic_Donna - How's the Armour working?
Comments (20)vickij, Check out the forum that I linked in one of my above posts. Also check out Mary Shomon's site and Stop The Thyroid Maddness site. There is so much info on Armour. bigbaby, I commend you for trying to live a more healthy lifestyle. There is a lot of info to help you learn about a natural life. I like Dr. Andrew Weil's books. As far as eating, try to eat foods in their natural state, i.e. from the ground, the sky, the water, not a box, bag or can. Eat a lot of fish, brown rice, fruit, vegetables, nuts, olive oil, small amounts of antibiotic free meats, whole wheat pasta, (unless you are going gluten free), organic dark chocolate, 60% or higher Cocoa. STAY AWAY from sugar, too much dairy, chips and all junk foods, cookies, cakes etc., meats injected with growth hormones, soft drinks, juices, alchohol, anything out of a box, bag, (except frozen veggies), or can. You get the picture. Try and walk daily and live a stress free lifestyle. Listen to your body!!! If something doesn't feel right find out why. Western medicine loves to throw pills at any symptom. Sometimes pills are a necessary evil. Most times a lifestyle change would benefit more. Do you know what the number one risk factor for heart disease and cancer is? Constipation. That's why diet is so important. You only have this one body. Put the best foods you can afford in it. Organic is best if you can pay the prices. Nourish your body with fresh healthy foods and it will give you many years of vitality. Try and keep stress levels low and get a good nights sleep. Comments (3)Hi Donna, Glad that you went to the new doctor and that you are giving Armour a try. 90 mg of Armour is a grain and a half. You should do fine on that dose. I never split mine, but then again I did poorly on Armour. Most people LOVE Armour though! If you feel overstimulated, just skip your second dose. Some people will feel much better within days. Hope you are one of them. The link below is to a forum that started when the STTM forum closed up. The people here can be quite helpful! Comments (81)I felt "almost" normal today. I started with Trader Joe's version of Cheerios with almond milk, after taking a Pepcid Complete. For lunch, I went to my neighborhood Thai restaurant, where I'm a regular. They made a vegetarian coconut soup with ginger for me. It really soothed my stomach. They also made a white meat chicken with veggies for me--only stomach-friendly veggies and a light sauce, no spice, low sodium -- with white rice. It felt great to eat a real meal! It sat well with me, but I didn't overeat. I was careful. I didn't snack all afternoon because I was able to eat lunch. I had some cranberry juice mid-afternoon and that's supposed to be good for gastritis. For dinner, I went back to the protein bar and shake to keep it nutritional, but light. I drank mostly water today and ginger tea. Only one small Gatorade after breakfast. Water is usually difficult for me early in the morning. Thanks for all the tips....See MoreElmer J Fudd
