Counter top help for this cookie cutter kitchen..(pics)
Comments (15)Yea, the counters aren't in bad shape at all. Except there's some water damage around that wood trim. Which is also the part I hate the most. That trim! And with wanting to paint the cabs white, I can't leave that and I don't like the look of that part painted, either. You know how you walk in the room, and something just stands out and as eye sore, making you not like the entire room. That's what these counters do for me. I really wouldn't mind the kitchen at all, if it weren't for those. Heck..I'd probably not even paint the cabs, (a whole other fear there). But, the green with the red paint kills me. If we don't get them done in the next six months, we're painting the kitchen again. Just to get rid of the red and green. It's funny, one of the reasons we bought this house a yr ago over some of the others, was because of the counters. I was so sick of seeing the same granite everywhere, this was a nice change. I think if I could go to a granite yard, pick out a beautiful slab I'd consider doing granite. But, I'm really just tired of seeing it in every single house I go to. High end homes, to middle of the road ones like mine. I have no choice but to do something cheaper, from a box store. And I just can't see doing the thin, little granite slabs all the builders and flippers do around here....See MoreHelp for kitchen paint color needed-butterfly beige counter tops
Comments (28)Sorry TCB - just realized you are the OP :) - and just re read that you plan to change the hardware....are you doing this everywhere in the home? Will the ORB be on all door hardware throughout the home? I'd strongly suggest focusing on the tile (white with matching grout or subtlety darker grout like a bone white). Then do the hardware and select paint LAST. Thank you for the paint tone pictures with your floor - could you retake the shots with the paint samples propped vertically against the wall by the tile floor. Look at all samples as you will see them in real life because the light hits them different so anything vertical (like paint) should be evaluated vertically....See Moreneed help - kitchen counter top
Comments (7)you've just about described my new kitchen (the island looks a little blue here, but it's a dark charcoal called Wrought Iron) the island is Calacatta and the perimeter is Eternal Serena quartz (they also have a charcoal color option that almost looks like soapstone, but I thought it would be too dark for mine) I'm not completely finished w/the tiling in my kitchen ) slab of the Serena Look up Silestone Eternal Charcoal and see if you like the darker. btw, here's one of the porcelain slabs from my tile place that I was considering. looked so real....See MoreNeed help with counter top material
Comments (7)I agree with @functionthenlook - with so many others using your kitchen maybe Formica is the one! It’s served you well & you may be pleasantly surprised at what today’s Formica looks like vs 30 years ago. That said, there are advantages to man made materials. The one constant caution is do not take pans from oven or stove top & set them on the surfaces but that’s same for Formica. The resins in Corian & quartz may yellow or burn. Corian is repairable, Quartz is not. Both are non porous. Granite is tough & won’t discolor from heat but not advisable to set hot stuff on it either - thermal shock. Bottom line is trivets should always be used no matter the surface & knife cutting should never be done on any counter surface. Not good for counter will /may cut & certainly not good for the knife ETA - all of the counter materials come in light colors & white.. Maybe price should factor in your decision....See MoreHALLETT & Co.
