Kitchen/Bath Remodel - Cabinets/Countertops that are "Timeless"
Comments (17)Cool thanks guys I think I'm going to go with a "Shaker" style either expresso dark or white/offwhite. Also for counter I like the higher grade granites. Does anyone have recommendations on where to shop for these or what they should cost? Also has anyone heard of "Cabinets to Go" ? Supposedly they're solid wood/ plywood base but made in China. They seem to have the best prices but I was wondering about quality? I plan on having a contractor remove a wall to open up the space to living area and having a little area to eat with the counter extending over the cabinets where the wall is opened. Any other tips for remodeling would be helpful? I'm doing a lot of the work myself and hopefully will be able to go for higher grade materials for counter and appliances by saving on labor and cabinets....See MoreHow can see my countertop superimposed on a quartz slap?
Comments (12)The width of the slab is enough to cut two standard counter runs with edge detail. When the fabricator cut the L from one piece, there is a rectangle of waste created 24 x ? that isn't large enough for your purpose, That leaves plus or minus 70" of standard run counter remaining. The only way you get a 34" piece left is if you don't use 34" of the remaining 70 inches or if you had a cut out that long. You need to measure to figure out the rest. I really can't tell what's going on in that drawing. One thing I don't like about 2020 is trying to get the measures readable at small formats. Understand that counter fabrication is like carpet and tile, you almost always have at least a 10% waste factor....See MoreBuying Blanco Silgranit Sink for kitchen remodel
Comments (5)I've had a Blanco Performa Cascade super single Silgranite anthracite sink for 12 years and it looks like new. The only time I've had an issue was when I set a glass measuring cup covered in olive oil down in the sink and it left a grease ring, which I couldn't remove but disappeared on its own within a few weeks. Boiling water hasn't been an issue. It's a breeze to clean up and I would never go back to stainless. Stick to your guns and have it undermounted....See MoreKitchen Remodel ideas for countertops - granite or quartz?
Comments (24)You have such a wonderful opportunity when doing a remodel. Contrast is exciting but the more contrast, the busier and likely more crowded and smaller your kitchen will look. I'm with Calidesign on continuing the maple onto the island. If the only decision you can still make is the countertop, definitely use the same on both types of cabinets. In choosing colors, colors closer in value (level of light and dark) can add dimension without looking as busy. Note in the kitchen above that they've used a muted blue with the wood.. not a dark blue. But also note where your eye stops. It's at that black hood and range -- due to the contrast. And the same would be true on the dark countertop if there weren't so many reflections. As for the countertops, I opted for a very high-end natural quartzite because it's less porous than granite and I wish I had chosen a quartz product. Stone varies so much and can stain very easily in lighter colors, even those touted as being non-porous. Good luck with your renovation!...See MoreJennifer Hogan
