HELP!!! My sink is falling down off the granite
Comments (4)We had the same problem on Thanksgiving of all days. We got a scrap 2 X 4 and didn't use the sink. Turns out the granite guys left out part of the epoxy on several sinks in our house. They came out removed the sink then correctly glued the sink. When you find someone to repair it you may want to look into clips as well. I'm pretty sure there is an old thread on this subject as well....See MoreHELP!! Patina off copper sink!
Comments (41)I was beyond distraught when I walked into my bathroom to see that the cap of a bathroom cleaner had been left on the front edge of my copper sink. There was a bright, shiny, copper 1 1/2" circle on my beautiful sink I immediately jumped on the internet to find a solution (it was 2am). Thank goodness for the person who suggested using 1/4 cup of ammonia and one teaspoon of salt mixed together. I applied the mixture with a Q-tip just around the circle. I did this every few hours for 12 hours and you can hardly see the ring!! I'll continue to do it and then put a protected coating on it. Thanks to the person who suggested using home products I had in my house in the middle of the night!!!...See MoreEntry Lanterns...off-centered or centered w/ off-set front door?
Comments (7)I think that you should only consider sight lines. In your case everyone will be coming in the door and presumably looking dead ahead. you'll get the most bang (since I assume you'll have some fabulous fixture in your entry) if you centre the lights on the door. Also a centred light viewed through the transom windows above a front door is a great warm greeting from the street (if your door is surrounded by glass). I went through the build process recently myself (moved in two months ago) trust me, you can't over think this stuff. There are tiny details all over the place now that I wish I had given more consideration. They don't spoil the experience of my new house, it's not that bad, but they do draw my eye in over and over and over. One of those niggling issues is my dining room light fixture which is centred on the dimensions of the room per plan, but does not account for the fact that the dining room opens to both a hall and my foyer so visual appears much bigger....See Moreoff-set sink in island...would this bug you?
Comments (12)Will there only be 18" b/w the sink and the edge of the island? That seems pretty small...if it were me, I'd probably knock things off the island while working at the sink. Do you have sufficient room behind the sink as well for things placed there or, if you have seating, for those sitting there to not be splashed? Is there any way to gain an additional 6" for total island width? I know you didn't ask about workspace, but I think that's the more important consideration (at least it would be to me!) If you're only concerned about form (how it looks), then ask yourself...how do you feel about things that aren't symmetrical? E.g., if you see a window that's not centered on a wall or if you see cabinets that are different overall width on either side of say, a cooktop/range? If these things bother you, then I suspect a sink that's off center may also bother you. However, if they don't bother you (or you don't even notice them), then you'll probably be OK with an off-center sink....See More- 3 months agolast modified: 3 months ago
