best way to tell if they need watering is a moisture meter or the way i do it is just lift the pot to tell if there is still water weight in the pot. test it out, get 2 pots same size same soil. water one and not the other, than lift each one up and feel the difference in weight,do this everyday until the both are dry. then youll soon know how to judge when a pot is dry.

we had a light frost early this week and it nipped my pepper plants but not the peppers. yesterday i pulled my hot peppers and i got two buckets of cayenne, one bucket of peperoncini and a half of a bucket of jalapenos. i pulled out the ripe jalapenos,they turn bright red when they are ripe. the green ones we are going to slice and make nacho fodder. the answer to you question is; normally before a heavy frost. i could have let them go for another week but i wanted to get them done so i was not doing to much before the heavy frost. i still have 500 tomato plants that are not nipped yet. i am going to harvest them Monday as that night is going to be the heavy frost night. the pearls of living in zone 4 in a high mountain valley. who ray for green houses. I think you will be able to get fruit at that temp. I have fruiting toms with a min temp of 54F. I'm still getting growth. The toms like warmer temps, as everyone knows, but your GH will heat up during the day. What you might be short on is light. GH toms like 16 hours of light followed by an 8 hours dark/rest period. I have MH lights on from 5-11pm for supplemental light. In the GH you can use the simple "staking" technique with string. Tie the string loosely to the base of the plant, then tie up to roof with 6-8" of extra loose string. As the plant grows, just wind the string around the plant...very efficient, quick and easy. SB

I've tried many things over the years. Gloves(whether latex or nitrile offer "some" protection, but when you're processing superhots for hours, the capsaicin IS going to penetrate). I've tried butter, milk, oils, vinegar, soap...all with very limited cooling. But last year, I tried something different. I used to just deal with the limited "cooling," but the heat really wouldn't subside until overnight. I still don the nitrile gloves, but now I actually wash my hands with just plain white vinegar. BUT... I don't rinse or dry it off. Instant relief, but there's still "some" warmth. So, I'll do it again about 15 mins later. All pain/heat pretty much dissipates within an hour. My theory is that the capsaicin is not only on the surface of your skin, but has started to penetrate deeper layers. So, wash your hands with all the soap or oil you want...if you rinse it off, you haven't given it time to penetrate those other deeper layers. Kevin
