Worth it to buy a power painter
Comments (11)Sorry to have taken so long to get back, but heat has been oppressive - what I really want is a gin and tonic - not a paint sprayer. I did talk with the True Value guy and the set up would be about $13/can. Not worth it to me, with all the cabinets I wanted to spray in addition to the mantle. So off I went to Lowes. What a waste as far as help (shoulda' known). The discussion went like this "can you tell me where the power sprayers are" and he pointed his finger to another aisle and said "there" - big help. Found them okay, not much of a selection, and I am totally ignorant as to the different types so I asked if he could help by explaining the differences between the various ones. His response was "they have different prices". I'm a lady, in my entire lifetime I have seriously never, but I wanted to spit I was so ticked. Home Depot was not much better, so I did research online. My conclusion is that I can't use the little portable ones with the plastic can of paint attached. They are just to heavy for me to use. So I researched the various "airless" ones out there. With what limited knowledge I have, I narrowed it down to two - the Ryobi RAP200G which is $100 at Home Depot. The reviews are decent and I liked the fact that it had a roller attachment. I also liked the Milwaukee M4910-21 and M491-10, $190 and $125 respectively. They seem to be better made but they don't have roller attachments. If the attachments are offered at an additional price I would be willing to buy them, but don't want to unless I can get them. I am going to try calling HD tomorrow to see if anyone knows the answer. That should be fun. Will let you know....See MoreUsing Existing Old House Roller Shade Hardware
Comments (19)Yes, reverse roller mounting placement. These old brackets are FAR better quality than one can get today. Just measure carefully. You can cover shades with fabric yourself if you have a big table, an outdoor space to work ( spray adhesive drift is impossible inside) and the patience to do them. Cover in a neutral and eventually get curtains for the windows....See MoreHunter Douglas Roller Shades Not Staying Down
Comments (4)Hunter Douglas is sketchy with their warranty. It's limited. If they're newer blinds then you should be ok but I've had trouble with HD in the past because I've actually 'used' my blinds. If you put a blind in a window with sun exposure, they consider it normal wear and tear. Their extra cost is definitely not worth the expense. I've stopped buying from them and used blinds.com instead. Much less expensive and great service. Quality is just fine....See Moreguidance on buying roller shades...
Comments (6)I am building a transitional leaning modern home and am installing roller shades to filler the sun in my 12 3'x8' windows stacked 2 high and 6 wide that face southwest. My shades are 7% so I can still see through them when they are drawn. I didnt need privacy or blackout shades since I can't see another houses or civilization from my house. I purchased my shades from a local company who makes shades for the RV business. They can make shades of any size so the 8' height wasn't an issue. I priced out my shades with budget blinds and blinds galore and mine are going to be about a quarter of what the other companies cost. I stopped in at the local company on a whim to see if they would sell to the public and they do! I was delighted. I recommend going to local companies or calling RV suppliers if they aren't local to you to see if they can ship....See MoreA D
