McCreary Modern
Comments (49)We bought a McCreary down sectional at Macy's in 2005. It's now 2016. We fell in love with it on the floor, in cheerful sunflower yellow pinstripe. It is the best thing we've ever bought. Incredibly comfortable. So soft & cozy. We are also tall, 6"2 & 5"9. We have 2 kids, now 12 & 13, who grew up on this couch. As well as 2 Persian cats a Newfie & Great Pyrenees. (Dogs not allowed on sofa) I wash these slip covers in cold in our washer, dry to damp; using stain spray on stains. They wash clean & fabulous. Nothing has ever frayed, failed or broken. We. Love. This. Sofa. It looks similar to when we bought it 11 years ago. It's huge & impressive. People love it. So much do we love this sofa that just today I contacted our same sales gal at Macy's who sold it to us, seeking to buy a new set of slipcovers. Even though the original ones look great & haven't noticeably faded. We just want to extend the life several more years. :) Our sofa & experience has been great. We also bought a sofa & love seat denim slipcover set from Lazyboy the same year. The cushions totally failed the first year- looking terrible, & LB would not replace. Terrible & not comfortable. The slipcovers on the LB set faded horribly & shrank within first few washings, so much they tore. McCreary sectional meanwhile- looks & feels new after 11 years. :) As well, I have bad asthma and allergies, and am extremely sensitive to smells or off-gassing, and our sofa had no odor at all. I wonder if the above person's sofa that had a strong smell, had come in contact with something at a warehouse, store, etc, if they had fumigated for something? Or even painted or been doing construction at some particular storage place or store? Only to say we had no smell at all, thankfully....See MoreDo chairs need to fit under dining table?
Comments (42)Hi Amy!!! Good feedback on the table. But too late. Deadline for returning the table was yesterday. :-) Basically, I decided I really loved the table, and loved it enough to forgive it for not letting the chairs go all the way under. The thing about tall people's feet didn't occur to me (tall people have feet?? who knew!). I'm just going to hope it works out. If someone really needs to stretch out their feet with a glass of brandy, they'd be much more comfortable doing it on the sofa or armchair anyway - which are only a few steps away! I did go back to Room & Board this week to take another look at the black steel table - it's nice, and it would have gone in the room okay, but it did seem kind of cold and hard-edged. I just don't get the same feeling looking at it that I do with the wood table. Maybe if I'd realized this thing about the wood table's legs before I actually bought it and put it in my house, I would have gone for the steel table - but maybe it's just as well. (I can always CL the wood table later if I decide it really doesn't work, and chalk it up to an expensive lesson learned - or a "table rental fee". ;-)) As for chairs - they *are* really difficult! I sat in the wood chair at R&B. Not so comfortable. The leather chair was much more comfortable. Go figure. Finding a relatively small chair that is still comfortable and attractive is crazy. So here's a form vs. function thing: I found these chairs on the West Elm web site: The size is good, the style works, the color is fun and might work in the room. BUT (lots of but's here) - the store only had them in dark gray, and I'm nervous buying them without seeing the actual "persimmon" color first. (Colors on web sites can be deceiving!) The fabric was a somewhat loose nubby weave that might prove irresistible to a cat's claws (assuming I ever get a cat again). And finally, there's the issue of West Elm furniture quality - I got my coffee table from them, and though I like the style of the table, not so happy with the quality. On the plus side, the chairs were pretty comfortable. (For now. The padding felt kind of, uh, hollow, like it might not hold up over time.) Still intrigued by the style & color though - if anyone has seen chairs like this elsewhere, please let me know! One more thing about the table... Dd50, I did go back to C&B also and look at the 48" version of the wood table. They had it up on a pedestal though, so I couldn't see how it looked with chairs under it. Anyway, it did look kind of big, and I'm not sure it would have made that much difference with the chairs, so I decided to stick with the 42" top. Finally, Amy, some extra pix showing the little orange table: Opposite the sofa: Mocked up with the picture that still needs to be hung over the sofa, the curtains that still need to be purchased, and a smushed make-believe vase munged from my green lamp base standing in for a centerpiece on the dining table:...See MoreNeed some help with fabric choice in kitchen
Comments (19)Wow, you guys are great! EMH, it's called Golden Crema. I also found it called Crema Romanzo and Golden Delicatus. I think these places just make up names. LL, I don't know that I love red, but I don't mind it. I'm not sure I have any color I truly love. Although my daughter will say that black is my fav color because that's all I wear. I do have a Dobag rug in front of the fridge and another in the family room (where that 3rd window is) that I really like and that will stay. Here's what it looks like and its in front of the fridge I think i'm liking the Suzani direction for the reasons Marcolo stated - kind of hip & current, but an ancient pattern. I like the Ikat's too. pllog, melissa, right - since it is for Roman shades, I won't ever see the whole big red circle. I won't ever pull the shades down. I really could care less if the elderly Chinese couple next door sees us cook. It is more rusty than bright Chinese red - the local fabric shop near me has it in their window so I've visited it in person. The smaller circle is definitely a rust that matches the rust (caramel) in the granite. And the cream background is the same as the granite. Yeah it will probably make the pendant disappear, won't it? The pendant actually has red about 1/4" all around the bottom. I wanted a bolder one but this was the only one my husband liked. Florantha, wow, thanks! It will be 2 shades within the window frame. I hadn't even thought about randomizing the pattern. Would you? I didn't even think out of the symmetrical box! I should stop in C&B - that Marimekko is cool. I remember them having a pretty good selection of fabrics for purchase too at their design center (if it is still in that store downtown!) Mikomum, thanks! There were more windows in the original plan, but when the costs came in, we got rid of the required steel beam and went for shear wall instead. Those windows are south facing so the light is good all year/all day long. The piece in the back is more kitchen cabinets, although with small knobs rather than large pulls, 27" deep to hide the stereo equipment. Yes! Florantha does deserve a gift certificate! I like the birds! And the brown with red flowers one! (maybe I do like red ;) The grey/black/white ones might work perhaps, but for some reason don't seem warm enough to me? (But what do I know, I'm really bad at this stuff...) I also failed to mention that I planted a tree outside that window. The kitchen is like 1 story (almost) up, so eventually we will have greenery visible in the lower part of those window. It won't get tall enough to block any light, but will be bright green. I forgot the name of the kidn of tree, but they are pretty common here. It's got very small leaflets on willow like branches....See More99%Finished-Passed Inspection Today--lots of pics and drawings
Comments (18)Thanks for the link to the backsplash. I would have been interested in somthing like that, but I had a sheet metal shop make me a backsplsh (stainless) and bought a Grundtal shelf form Ikea...also got the s hooks! I think it will all be hung tomorrow. Still trying to decide about the canisters in pic..have more of them, but they just are not going to work for me. Maybe my DD could find a place for them I know about the Harwich tile shop. LOVE the items you got from them.I am going to do just a simple subway tile in a brick pattern, but I will go and look at their fabulous selection..As you can tell from my name -nauset (as in beach), I am in Orleans....See MoreBrianne Margolin
