The missus and I have voted by mail for several years. Primary, general, etc. We get the ballot and generally, it leaves the house the next day. No deep thinking, we know.

We will go to a polling place because we like to. We have a few options for early voting and for Election Day itself, and have never had to stand in line except maybe 3rd at the small table for your precinct. Actually, 2016 there was a line, because the only early location was at our City Hall and we foolishly went on a Saturday.

My dad would have voted by mail as he’s done for years, but he passed away a year ago. And no, he did not posthumously receive a ballot for the primary this year.

Actually my request for a mail-in ballot goes out today. I will take the request form to the post office drive-up box, but the post office has moved the boxes so that you have to drive in through the exit in order to reach the drive-up boxes. Good grief.

I've always gone in person to vote and will do that again this November. I can see where mail in voting is easier for people, but I enjoy the process.

In past years I mailed it in, but this year I'll take it to the polling place. I can see it from my house. in my better days I could have cut across a few acres and walked there. in 2016 I did vote there on the last day and it was a miracle that very few cars were in the lot, no line at all. no voters at all when I got inside, just me and the workers. The workers set me up at a voting 'booth' where I could sit down to complete the form.

I'd certainly prefer that to the PO considering what the PO unions tell the postal workers and that the envelopes are marked.

I do not think mail-in is easier; it takes days to weeks here. It takes online access, a printer, postage and an envelope (for the ballot request). Then, if you want to raise the pre-paid postage on the ballot itself to first class, you need more postage. Then you have to find a reliable place to mail your ballot from. Yeah, like the mailboxes that force you to drive against traffic at my zipcode PO.

Mail. Polling place is a small room upstairs in City Hall, and it is a social event. We gab with the poll people, everyone talks to one another, often see people one knows. It is like a party. Safer to mail.

Matthias, our ballots here where all voting is done by mail are returned in pre paid postage envelopes. By the state. I think I've needed a stamp for local elections from time to time but not even those have required postage to mail recently. All first class mail.

Smaller community. All our outgoing mail goes to the Post Office. DH often takes before open hours, the lobby is unlocked and he inserts into the appropriate indoor wall slots. I learned years ago that the only drop box that sorts mail locally and is delivered most quickly is the one in the PO's drive up alley way if not inside. Any other box, or if I give it to our carrier who is willing....and the mail leaves town to a major postal center be sorted, even if that means it has to come back to this zip to be delivered.

maddielee, in some states ballots aren't mailed to you automatically, so you have to request them. You have to print out and mail in the application, and only then do you get your ballot in the mail. That's the case here in PA.

Which states? Here (Florida) it takes about 3 minutes to go online and request a mail in ballot. Check with your Supervisor of Elections.

Here in California, every registered voter receives a ballot in the mail. For the past several elections, we've filled out the ballots, and then turned them in at a polling location. For the November election, we will fill out the ballots, and then drive them to the County Elections Office to turn them in.

I keep seesawing between the two. I read last night that the number of polling places within the city had been cut from 142 to 29. I have not verified it but since it was posted by an ex city council member I would think they would know. I do know that in 2016 the room that is normally used for voting was full of people. There were not enough tables to put your ballot to fill it out and some people were using the backs of people they knew in place of a table. This year another precinct has been moved into the room and things will probably be worse.

Then there is the weather. All joking aside about what else can go wrong this year we are having much lower temperatures than normal. I took my car for a drive today and noticed the leaves along the roadside changing. Looks strange when I see taking my car for a drive but the last couple of days have seen reminders to drive your cars once a week. It has been two weeks at least.

I will be going to the polls. I live in a small town that still uses paper ballots. I love watching my ballot getting slid into the ballot box. There is something comforting about knowing without a doubt my vote will be counted.

That being said, I am concerned about ballots being mailed to folks. Absentee ballots that are requested are one thing but the mass mailing of ballots without adequate verification is ludicrous.

Yes, the ballot is mailed to us, but the request for a ballot, or application as some say, is made by going online and printing out the form to fill out and sign.

For the primaries this summer we were able to make our request for a ballot online, and I did so. That option doesn't seem to be available for the general elections, which is why I needed to print the request form and mail it in. When the ballot arrives, I hope to complete it and mail it back the same day or next day.

Might be wise to check your voter registration on line. I was not certain if I should use the city or my county board of elections to request an absentee ballot. The city did not have me. My county automatically transferred me to the state SOS site. The state site does not have my address correct. I live on a street that North of the river uses North on street names but not south of the river. The state does not have North in the registration. I called the county to see what the problem was and if I should reregister although I have been voting at this address for over 25 years. They show the North.

We live in a small community and voting has always been very accessible, so we will be voting in person.

Absentee, and will drop it off in person. Works for me every time.

My niece in Texas complained that Texas does not allow people to vote by mail if their reason for doing so is to avoid Coronavirus.

Our state has absentee ballot without conditions necessary- that passed in 2016. Since then, every year, the amount of absentee ballots has been increasing.

I've been an election inspector for years, and March saw a bit of an uptick in absentee ballots as usual. But I got really sick after that, and I think it was from a voter. So this August and November I'm sitting out working the elections and dropping off the absentee ballots at the town hall. Ballot applications were sent out state wide before the August election with option to also do November too.

Next year I'll probably work elections again and then vote in person while I'm there- not sure if we will have elections next year or not, but it's not often we go a year without elections.

Depending on your absentee ballot look and see if one of the options is to be out of the area on voting day. While not strictly ethical what a friend did was plan a day away from where her polling place was located on election day. Some years they did do a trip but other years not. Just because you plan something does not mean that something happens to prevent you doing it.

moosemac -- Why the fuss about mailing ballots to one and all? The only ballots that will count are those checked by the board of elections when they are RECEIVED. Men from Mars could receive ballots, but because they are not REGISTERED VOTERS, their signatures will not match the list of voters and will be destroyed.

What is ridiculous is the states that require you to give a reason for absentee voting -- a reason that can be *denied*. What's ridiculous is states that locate polls where people can't easily reach them, or staff them so minimally that voters can't get in the doors to vote before the polls close. THAT is Vote Tampering.

What's ridiculous is the chaos this president has fomented with the USPS. He and his toady postmaster need to be removed and a real government resorted.

DH and I will vote only PAPER BALLOTS. These can be retrieved and recounted if necessary. We've applied for ballots. We will mail them, or deposit them in the lighted, camera-equipped drop boxes near us, or take them to boxes at the County Board of Elections a few miles north of us.

I have voted by mail for about 25 years. We changed so that we could all sit with our kids as they qualified to vote and discuss propositions or candidates at the kitchen table and mark our ballots as we discussed. Otherwise, I don't know how frequently the younger members of our family would have voted. California's ballot can be long and require lots of information to vote on the sometime numerous propositions.

Oregon has had strictly vote-by-mail in place for over twenty years, and there are NO problems. Any that you "hear of" is supposed justification for voter suppression, apparently in quite a few states. Ask yourself why this administration wants voter suppression....

We voted in person for the primary and it was done well, so we'll vote in person. Everyone kept their distance, no one physically touched ANYTHING. You used a new pen and took it with you. They used coffee stirrers like styli for the computer screen. Again, one time use. They recycled those since it's 100% plastic. They didn't even touch our identification, they used tongs. They wore PPE from head to toe. Every other voter kept the correct distance and wore masks properly. It couldn't have been more appropriate.

My only hope on mail-in is that he screws up his voters as much as everyone else is screwed up. If it gets screwed up. Judging by the polling place events, I don't think any of them were there since they're the ones so against masks.

We vote by mail with the option of using a drop box which we usually do just to save the state postage. We drop off our ballots on any convenient trip into town after we get our ballots. This time we will use the drop box for sure. It is safe, secure and convenient. I really like the paper ballot. It cant be hacked.

Unless your mail-in ballot is return receipt requested, how do you it didn't get lost or tossed? Not that computer is better.

But it does make me wonder what truly is unhackable???

How do you know your in-person ballot gets counted at all and isn't misplaced or ignored? That's been a recurring problem encountered in many places.

How do you know an in-person or mail-in ballot is counted correctly? Remember the ballot recounts in Florida a few years back? Every time they did a recount, they got different results.

This isn't something with the critical tolerance as trying to find and fix a gas leak in a house before it explodes. Any voting procedure is imperfect and worrying about one envelope or one ballot here or there isn't really necessary.

I worry about widespread hanky-panky. Even one or two precincts can change a state which can change the entire election. We just saw that happen.
