Downton Abbey Season 5!
Comments (40)Marie cate I'm an hour and half away. I'm waiting for someone to get back to me to confirm which date she's available to go but I want to go soon. We went to see the Grace Kelly exhibit (in Doylestown) last January and the weather was a nightmare. I want to go sooner versus later so we don't repeat that. The Xmas decor will be up after the 22nd, I think. Kswl, I still longingly recall a plaid coat Mary wore in a hunting scene, the first year I believe. It would be great if that is included in the exhibit, I'd love to see it up close. Something about the tailoring on that just really grabbed me. Of course I'm not built anything like her. I'd look like a fire plug wrapped in a plaid blanket....See MoreDownton Abbey Rose: Anna's Promise
Comments (15)Hi Manasi, I agree Anna's Promise is not a "round" bush. My original 6 posted above shot up straight, pretty much like a grandiflora. They have nice foliage though. This year I got 4 Easy Does it. They do look like Anna's Promise but with 3 differences. First, leaves on Anna's are a darker green. Second is that Easy Does it does not grow like a grandiflora but grow more round, more like a floribunda. Third, my Easy Does it are still quite short now and no more than 2 feet tall at this point (planted in early February this year), but Anna's Promise shot up to > 5 feet within the first year and this year it is certainly going to be even taller. I love orange roses!...See MoreFor fans of Downton Abbey - selected shorts
Comments (13)Lady Grantham came from a wealthy American family who would have the same sort of arrangement of staff and responsibilities borrowed from the British. She had been married for over twenty years to Lord Grantham and had plenty of time to learn the British nuances and in the case of this particular household had the services of a particularly nice Housekeeper. Now some Ladies left everything to their housekeeper which was entirely possible here but in this case they go to the Earl. He would be the last person on earth they would turn to unless it had something to do with the cellars, stables or hunting or some usual male area of expertise. This Earl doesn't even seem to have a domestic turn. Occasionally there were men who refused to allow their wives to manage the house but women deeply resented it and said so. I think they did it in this series because how else do you include the Earl when he didn't seem to take much of an interest in horses and hunting. But it is all wrong....See MoreSo Did Anyone Go To See the Downton Abbey Movie?
Comments (37)Going to the movies is our family’s favorite thing. We have multiple “Tavern” theaters near us, leather recliners, full bar and dinner service. However we usually reserve going to the theater for action type movies where the big screen adds to the experience. For character driven stuff like Downton Abbey we will watch at home. The usual trajectory of a movie nowadays is kind of predictable. If it’s a box office hit, it will stay in the theaters for a few months, then it will go to an online service like Netflix or Vudu and will be available for sale for a month or two, usually in the 15.99-21.99 range. Then it will become a rental for 5.99-8.99 range before ending up in the discount range. If it’s a box office so-so performer it will speed through to cheap rental pretty quickly....See Morejoaniepoanie
