I have about 16 flowers and 1 bud on my tree now. The flowers have all wilted now, but I thoroughly molested the pollen so I am hoping for results. I trying to cultivate another with a piece of the original and some rooting hormones. I will probably buy 2 more varieties that will pollinate together and then cultivate several from these, and then plant one of each variety together in certain areas so they pollinate well. I have also started growing Mimosa to sell to the local nursery for $10 a piece. (the same nursery that sold me the feijoa) It might be profitable to try and sell them a few of the other feijoa varieties I plan to grow.

Wow, thanks for all the comments! I can't link the approved plant list, since it's on our HOA website which requires a login. I have it as a .pdf file, but can't think of any way to get it up here for you to see...it's pretty boring anyway :) Emu bush, southern live oak, chitalpa, willow acacia, chocolate flower, salvias, etc. are sadly not allowed. We really would prefer emu bush and live oak to the choices I posted above. We like desert willow, but half the houses on the street have them :( Agave parryi is one that we've considered; it actually is approved. I really like agave pelona (not on the approved list...maybe I can hide it behind something!), but I've read it's a bit picky and may be difficult to grow successfully. The closer we put the aloe ferox to the house, the more afternoon shade it will get. I've seen it kept in full sun in some nurseries around here, but Bach's has it under light shade cloth and theirs looked the best. I'm really excited about this plant...I hope it works! My wife says the texas rangers have to go. Really, they don't hide anything all that much. The houses are just too close together for that. Maybe the HOA won't pick up on the difference between live oak and emory oak; I actually had to look at the tags to tell them apart. Gambel oak (quercus gambelii) is also approved, but we were told it wouldn't hit 10 feet. Toyon (heteromeles arbutifolia) is approved and would be cool, but I can't find anywhere to buy it. Gah, why can't anything be easy? Thanks for all the help.

Well, I got two of the hybrid seedlings from Rolling River. I would not have purchased them if I had seem them that is for sure. There are really spindly/thin and don't see how this (what looks like a cutting) will become a bush. They are alive and growing though. Summer Winds had unnamed varieties for 9$ in much better shape. I bought two there and then saw a Coolidge at Home Depot for 18$. Picked that up and a month later see Naemetz (sp?) at HD for 20$ and pick that up. I move my spindly Rolling River ones out to some place in the yard and replace with the HD varieties. I also so Naemetz at Lowe's quite large trained as a tree for 35$ I think.
