Self-Clean Issues on new series KitchenAid?
Comments (9)I have the ovens you are interested in. They work very well and have not given any trouble. I have posted about them previously. In fact this is my second set. We built a new home and reselected the same Kitchenaid appliances that I had in our former place. My old oven was fine too. They are simple to use, have very accurate temperatures, produce nicely baked, roasted, broiled foods. The self-clean function has worked fine through many cycles. The microwave is especially nice with the drop-down door. It works well also. The styling of the Kitchenaid in my opinion is much better than other combination units. There is a minimum of grillwork, trim and air vents that create unsightly gaps around the doors & control panel. The oven comes with a good 5 year warranty. Since reading about all the self clean problems, I ran a cycle within a few weeks of use. Again all was well. Just like my previous oven. I can guarantee you I'd be on the phone with the CEO's office at Whirlpool in a heartbeat if I had any trouble!...See MoreIs it ok to clean a self-cleaning oven?
Comments (3)Just DON'T ever use the self-clean cycle again ... unless you RINSE the oven very well of any cleaner residue (and perhaps open windows and leave the house for the duration). If heated to the high temp used in a self-cleaning cycle, oven cleaner residue can generate toxic fumes....See MoreKitchen Aid Oven Self-Cleaning Issue (Another One !!)
Comments (20)First of all, I absolutely disagree with anyone who says "don't self clean" - the vast majority of people self clean without any issues. I would, however, advise not self cleaning right before a time when you really need to use the oven and you won't be able to get a repair tech in for a while - for example, the day before Thanksgiving. It's not that self clean necessarily causes problems - but if it's on the verge of failing anyway, self clean will push it over the edge. Now, as for KitchenAid/Whirlpool. They used to have frequent self clean issues before 2009, but since then they have fixed the problem with design changes and better cooling airflow. Despite the problem being fixed, there are still isolated incidents of this happening, like with all manufacturers. Also, there are reasons that this can happen besides manufacturing defects or design flaws. One common problem I see these days is installers removing the protective cardboard cover on the bottom of the oven before putting it on the appliance dolly. Then, the ventilation duct at the bottom of the oven gets crushed. The oven gets installed, nobody notices, and everything appears to work fine at first. But once you get some serious heat, such as a self clean cycle, the oven will be unable to cool its internals properly and you will have issues....See MoreCleaning Self Cleaning Kitchenaid oven the left over burnt on grease
Comments (20)"Steve Parker: Water dispenser has leaked since day one. Dealer changed the ice maker under warranty still drips," Replacing the ice maker would reasonably have no effect on a dripping water dispenser which is a separate mechanism. Aqua Lift or steam oven cleaning is on several brands/models, not just KitchenAid. I've seen a few (I don't recall which brands) with both steam and high-heat self clean which provides the user a choice of cleaning (or non-cleaning, LOL) methods....See More- 12 years ago
