Earth Day is Saturday, April 22nd
Comments (9)Thanks Esh. Actually, I believe Earth Day is Sunday April 22nd. I just ordered a bunch of books for our PTA's Environmental Education committee to donate to my daughter's school's library for Earth Day. One of my favorites was called the Gift of the Tree. It reminds us beautifully of all the things one tree provides going all the way to when it breaks down and nourishes the new trees. It reminded me how important it is to leave some things a little untended. I was actually impressed with the number of wonderful books out there for kids on the subject. It was amazing how reading a couple of the books really drove home some of the points I try to make. As important as it is for us to teach our kids I think in some cases the kids teach their parents as well, so I try to teach the neighbors' kids when the moment arrives....See MoreEarth Day April 22 2009

We have also planted marigold seeds - 4 packets (BIG packets), Cannas- two types 4 packages, Brazilian Fireworks 1 packet, Pride of Barbados 1 packet, 10 packets of Morning glories, 10 packets of perennial sweet peas, 5 packets of Forget me Nots, 10 packets of 4 o'clocks, 10 packets of Salvia, 5 packets of Lantana, 5 packets of butterfly weed, 5 packets of Ice plant. That's the count so far today. We're not finished yet, just came in to eat dinner and rest a bit. We'll work inside sowing more flats here in a little while :) Not sure how you're converting plants to packets of seeds, or how many seeds you're considering a packet. I know that a one of those marigold packets filled 2 72 count flats. But, however you're tallying it up, we've done a LOT of planting today! So, any ideas on how many carried through today? Or about how close you got to your goal? Kathy~ heading back to the seed sowing :)...See MoreThe EarthTainer 'Farm' Photo Update - April 28
Comments (20)Raybo: I'm ok. Could use a hot tub soak! lol. Regarding my plants, tomatoes have undergone a good bit of stress as of late with the roller coaster weather, but all of them survived fine. They just got a bit ugly. I need to watch out for blight. I probably have a dozen or so tomatoes already growing, some of them only 2-3 weeks away from being ripe & picked. =) I'm a bit worried about my peppers though. They're in my cold frame, but with all this cloudy & rainy weather, they've stayed at about 1-2 inches tall for I swear the last few weeks. I'd take them indoors & put them back under the lights, but my wife would kill me! She's already demanding I clean up my "plant room" so she can have it back...lol. - Steve...See MoreApril 2021 Week 4
Comments (64)Hi Nancy, this is Renee (Mrs. Dollar). I am very impressed with your quilts. You are very talented!. I have been quilting since 2006 and the very first quilt I made was for my parents 50 wedding anniversary. I printed pictures of them and the family, incorporated them within quilt. I have a group of ladies that I quilt with at Lake Texoma twice a year. I have learned a lot from them and just bought a Brother Dream Machine 2 from one of the ladies. I am not part of any quilt guild, but just joined a FB group for my machine. I am quilting my lap and twin size quilts on my embroidery machine. It has been fun. I am currently working on a Hunter's Star king size quilt for our bed and am down to the borders. I have been working on it since June of last year. One of the ladies I quilt with has an AccuQuilt Go cutter and I used it to cut out all of my pieces. Man that was amazing how accurate and quick it was to cut out ALL those pieces. I will have Lynn send you a few pics of my work, but I warn you, they will not live up to your work. I especially like the last one. I think the pattern is called sail's trail? Not sure but I have eyed that one several times. Thank you for your interest and look forward to talking again....See Morehazelinok
