shutters or no shutters? New Trim or new windows? HELP!
Comments (10)The shutters are the wrong size which makes them look wrong for the house. They are too long and appear to be too wide, leaving no reveal of the house between the windows. There are sites that will explain shutter sizing but I'll try to keep it simple. Imagine the shutters were operational and could open and close. The shutter needs to fit into the window "well" and meet in the center. Yours, if closed would not fit together and would go over the molding on the top and bottom. (hope this makes sense). I think shutters belong on CHC houses but if they're sized wrong, it'll look "off". I think that's where you're at. Color can be determined later. Now here's a thought. If you're thinking about replacing them anyway, I'd take down the ones on the ground floor and trim them down to the correct size, remount in the same holes and see if it doesn't make a huge difference. Then you could play with paint, whatever. Good luck....See MoreSelling-need new shutters/roof/door color suggestions, please
Comments (10)Interestingly, blue has cycled back into popularity, so your door doesn't look dated, but maybe a slightly different shade of blue would look more up to date - not sure. Or a sophisticated gray - young buyers would love it. I would remove the storm door - which DOES date the house. Put a fresh coat of paint on the shutters, use the replacement roof as a bargaining tool with the buyers. Let them mention it, agree to replace, and allow them to choose the color. Put a nice seating arrangement on the porch and some planters. I would put some money into renovating the landscaping. I would consider getting rid of the some of the large shrubs in front of the house. The plant on the right side of the sidewalk looks terrible right now. Unless it looks super wonderful when it leafs out, maybe that's not what you want there. Drive around to some builder's model homes and look at their landscaping for ideas. The cupula over the garage is darling. Maybe you could put copper siding on it? Prettier mailbox and street numbers? Prettier light fixture? Stagers tell us that potential buyers spend a few minutes at your door as the real estat agent is opening the box to get to your keys....See MoreNew shutters/roof/door paint-need color help
Comments (8)Each region of the country has it's own look. I'm not sure if would be considered appropriate for you area. Personally, I would update the white and go with a light to medium shade of tan/taupe or even a sage/olive if it would work with the brick. I'm partial to black shutters and a black door. I can't tell if the dark colored brick is a black or a brown so the above mentioned choice might be a better choice if it is a dark brown. I would absolutely get rid of the blue because that makes the house look more dated....See MoreShutter color? New roof and door
Comments (11)Thank you Beverly for the mock-up. Perfect timing... We have painters coming tomorrow to paint our staircase ( eeek! Still need to decide on color for that!) and weather permitting, I think I'll go for it and have him paint the shutters black.) Will post pic when done:) Now...for railing, spindles and living rm paint decisions.... Guess I better get myself to the BM store!...See MoreLyn Nielson
