Does anyone have/had Alder cabinets? Hickory?!
Comments (23)I am surprised that no one else has found that the alder cabinets are better on the budget than other wood species. Could this be a regional phenomenon? When I was first pricing cabinets, I found across several different cabinet lines that there was a 15-25% savings when using alder instead of cherry and approximately a 10% savings over maple. We were only pricing all-plywood construction so that may have influenced the price differentials somewhat. These prices were not for knotty alder but the regular alder. BTW, all of the cabinets above look beautiful! And, for the OP- $8K is not a lot to outfit the entire house in cabinetry...it goes fast!!! It sounds as if you rec'd a prelim bid from HD, so maybe you'll end up okay. But, add in any crown molding, rope molding, corbels, light rails, bump outs, better constructed boxes/doors, etc., and you'll be sunk.......See Moreanyone have wellborn light maple cabinets?
Comments (5)I'm sorry you didn't get any responses. We seem to be the only ones on here getting Wellborn. (I responded to your previous post about Wellborn). I ordered painted maple in the Divinity finish . They are due to be installed this month. I seriously considered getting the natural maple. The only reason I didn't is because I didn't think I would like them next to the old pine floors (that run throughout the house). I like more of a contrast. I considered a darker oak, but thought it would make the room dreary - kitchen is only 10 x 12 and all wall space will be completely fitted with cabs. The wood work in my house is white, except doors which are pretty dark wood, so the maple would have been very different from the rest of the house. On the other hand, I am not in love with all the white kitchens I see on GW, I like color. One of my favorites here belongs to berf, who used natural cherry and a stone-looking vinyl floor. I hope I haven't bored you to tears. Good luck with a tough decision....See MoreDoes Anyone have White Conestoga Cabinets???
Comments (22)Hi All - thank you so much for your input. Since posting, I finally settled on the Frosty White. Mobydog...I am also ordering through Brian Long at the Cabinet Joint. He has been great and very patient with me! Oldbat2be...thank you, thank you, thank you! I am so happy to see pics of Frosty White. It makes me feel even more sure that I have made the right decision on the whites. Not nearly as stark as I thought it would be. Please send more! Your kitchen is INCREDIBLE! So happy to connect with someone who has the same cabinets. Did you assemble and install yourself? If so, how did you find the process? Also, love the Torquay. Is that honed or polished? Do you love it?? Have been dreaming about honed carrera forever but have been hesitant over durability issues. But if Torguay gives the same feel without looking 'fake'...then I want to explore it as an option. ellendi...thank you so much. I am one of those 'must do it myself types' and Conestoga's quality can not be beat for RTA. Boops2012...I realized after I posted this that I put the wrong image in...I didn't think anyone would notice!! I have been debating where to put my fridge and wall oven. The clearance is 42" between the front of the fridge or DWO to the peninsula and I have been simulating it at home to see how it feels. I actually will likely put the fridge at the back now and put the DWO where the pantry is (further down toward the living room). That's how I feel today anyway...any input is very much appreciated. Thank you for calling attention to it! buffetgirl...that is so right on... thank you for that reinforcement! I kept coming back to the truer of the whites and kept thinking the same thing!...See MoreAnyone have Schuler Maple Cabinetry in Cappuccino stain?
Comments (19)Hi Sofia, Looks like you're quite a bit ahead of us. Insulation on our house is this week, and plaster should start next week (fingers crossed!) Cabinets are not in yet, but won't be installed until next month sometime anyway. The perimeter cabinets are Medallion White Icing and the island is Medallion Oak Cappuccino. I believe Medallion and Schular are sister companies? Our floors are white oak, but I am not at all close to picking out stain color. My husband wants darker than the island, I want lighter. We'll see!...See More- 2 months ago
