Bliss Parfuma, why is it, "Parfuma," if it's only lightly fragrant?

Comments (18)Modestgoddess tipped us off that RU has Bliss (thank you!) & I'm already in the habit of emailing Pat about any rose of interest, listed or not. Emailed last week to ask if she's still shipping & she said yes, since her weather's been a bit cooler than usual lately, so she'll be shipping Monday. Like you, Lilyfinch, looking for a few more before the shipping season shuts down due to heat. Also have my eye on a couple in Heirloom's current sale - their long shipping time (7-8 days door to door) doesn't irk me as much as their stripping the foliage does, still undecided. If you're in the mood, encourage you to email Pat pronto as her shipping window may close any day now. Sue...See MoreBliss Parfuma from Kordes, ADR, is it pancake flat when full open?
Comments (18)Moses- I also have Bliss from Palatine. She is stunning and already on her second set of buds. Mine had quite a bit of scent. First year planted though so I don't know about winter hardiness. My own root from J&P died over the winter but they shipped very late, end of September which I was pretty angry about. That's way too late for Massachusetts planting. I overwintered the pot in the ground but she didn't make it although Kiss Me Kate did well. I hope Bliss is winter hardy because she is beautiful although I like the scent of Earth Angel and Summer Romance better. I love DA's too. My Windermere is almost always in bloom, is very winter hardy and pretty much disease free. Heritage is also very healthy here. Queen of Sweden is hardy and as a plus her stems never nod for me. No scent though. The rose I love best though for beauty and scent has to be Princess Charlene de Monaco. She's taller though if that's an issue. One flower scents the whole garden. So far very healthy and putting out her second flush. New this year though so I don't know about winter hardiness but she's rated for z5. So far she's a keeper. sharon...See MoreCan you recommend me some strongly fragrant roses
Comments (73)Im wondering how I have missed Velvet Fragrance? What a beautiful red and fragrant to boot Two of my favorite for fragrance are Double Delight and Memorial Day. Tess, my mother in lae and my dad were both in care factories and I know the joy that they would have received by sharing the fragrance and beauty of real roses or any flowers actually What a great ministry and blessing for those who love fresh flowers but have gardens no more Well done !!...See MorePlease Help Further my Rose Fragrance Education Quest
Comments (75)You have some wonderful roses on your list, Sunny! Abraham Darby is a great one for fragrance -- but in the south it might be a martyr to blackspot. I haven't tried it yet in Arkansas. I've found like some others on this thread that Mrs B R Cant has a mild fragrance for me (though one of my students who smelled it at the campus garden said that it smelled strong to her). Some of the other teas I grow -- notably G Nabonnand and Clementina Carbonieri -- have a good fragrance to me, and stronger than Mrs B R Cant. Blooms also vary depending on time of day and some days I can't smell them at all (not sure if that is the rose being variable or my allergies!) Annie Laurie McDowell has a lovely fragrance with notes of old rose and does well for me here in Arkansas. Madame Alfred Carriere also has a really nice fragrance for me here (though I know of another specimen that gets mostly shade that doesn't smell much at all to me). It is interesting how variable roses seem to be between individual noses and from place to place and season to season. Back when I grew a bunch of roses in pots, I felt that perhaps some of them got more fragrant on the rare occasions I planted them out rather than confining them. I'm also pretty sure that they get stronger in fragrance as mature roses. Oh, by the way, did you mention Souvenir de St Anne's? It has a sort of unusual pear-like fragrance to my nose. As you continue refining your collection to your taste, you might give it a try at some point. It isn't a super strong knock-your-socks-off fragrance, but I liked it. Lately my love of fragrant roses has inspired me to branch out into other fragrant flowers. I've got a bunch of peonies growing, and peony Rosa Bonheur is opening its first bud for me. It smells beautifully like a combination of peony and rose....See MoreSoFL Rose z10
