Savannah Kordes hybrid tea anyone growing?
Comments (28)I have only been a serious “rosarian” for three years but it has quickly tuned into an obsession! I only purchase Kordes roses because of their fragrance and beauty_ also pre- Covid 19, Lowe’s sold them . Unfortunately, 4 of my Summer Romance contracted RRD and had to be destroyed 😔. I bought these from Lowe’s, but my neighbor’s Knock Out roses had RRD and I suspect the wind transferred the mite to my roses. As to the Kordes Savannah, I purchased three Kordes rose bushes at Lowe’s, and although they were ticketed as Plum Perfect, the roses on the bushes were pink. I finally decided that they were mis- labeled. I’m not sure how I arrived at the conclusion that they were Kordes Savannah, probably from comparison of pictures on line. My Savannah’s have been constant and prolific bloomers for the last two years and their fragrance is divine. They are definitely pink and I see no apricot tones on mine. I have attached two photos. If these aren’t Savannah, I would appreciate a heads up. Also attached a photo of a Summer Romance bush in full bloom....See MoreNewflora Kordes roses - let's rate them to provide feedback
Comments (185)Flowersaremusic I agree with you on above climate ect. Mine was nine years old and had not been nearly as beautiful as usual for the last 2 maybe 3 years. I decided to dig it up at the end of this year and replace it. Is was full of disease with very small flowers. while digging part of the crown broke off. I reached down and pushed on more of the crown that part broke off. No wonder the poor rose was looking poorly as the crown was in decay. I could also see that it was grafted since I plant those on a angle. In my wetter environment and needing to bury grafts that the grafted area eventually rots away and effects the crown. Could also be affected by below zero weather. I'm also considering applying more fertilizer. Sort of thinking that some continuous bloom roses could use more than what I give them. Felt so bad taking out the old rose. Happy now that it is done and a fresh new beauty will be coming....See MoreObsessed with Kordes!
Comments (88)I think the advantage that David Austin has compared to other specialist rose nurseries is that they able to market their roses better and their brand is very well known and stands out. I do love the green logo and the fact they refer to their roses as "English roses" which conjures up images of drinking tea outside the garden. A lot of the Kordes roses don't appear to me much because they lack the defined shape and form of English roses. What I mean by that is when you look at the shape of David Austin roses, they look fascinating! Their appearances look like a piece of art : delicate petals and the complex arrangement of petals inside a shallow cupped blooms. Yes, most of them are not as healthy or bloom as much as other roses but I don't mind. It gives me work to do in the morning - keeps me healthy and fit. If a rose bloom too much it can ended up being boring so a shattered blooms here and there makes me look forward to see it bloom. Having said all that I do noticed a lot of their latest releases are very similar to their older varieties. Unless they change the look people will end up trying out newer roses from other companies. Take for instance Boscobel looks a bit like PAOK... but I love the name Boscobel and usually refer it to a "he" and I needed a "male" rose in the garden. If this rose was named something else like "The Endevour" I don't think I would have fallen in love with it....See MoreNeed your input on Kordes roses
Comments (42)Altorama Ray, I'm still here just waiting for spring, lol. I lost quite a few roses over this winter so I'm evaluating what to do next. I'll definitely be downsizing my garden though, it's getting to be a bit too much work and the roses struggle for lack of sun. Most of my Austins did well but I lost quite a few of the Kordes roses. Madame Anisette is really tough and Summer Romance came through great as did Earth Angel but most are struggling. I even had a lot of damage to my laurel, rhodi's and holly this year. I'm starting to plant more hydrangeas since they seem to like my particular gardening environment much better, especially the panicles. Not quite roses though :-( I hope you fared better in your end of the state. Your roses are breathtaking. Sharon...See MoreKaren R. (9B SF Bay Area)
