Comments (9)LOL, Ron! A garden of deformities, malformations, and mutations...that is one way of looking at the miniature bed, one which ignores the aspect of aesthetics. Looking at Sam's pictures of brooms as they exist in nature highlights the fact that they are manifest mutations, deformed organs in large trees, of no value to the parent tree. A thought experiment in this direction raises the question, might other species or kingdoms of life perceive human malformations as attractive and worthy of collecting? Some biologists harvest tumor tissue from cancer patients in order to create immortal cell lines, and grow these cell lines side-by-side in labs. Such a lab might be considered a veritable garden of delights! However, this would ignore all the information provided by aesthetic sensibility which is the gardeners' muse, defining value in terms of beauty. Undeniably, miniature conifers are things of beauty in the garden, either as accents in the mixed bed or co-existing in a conifer bed. Another key distinction is that of pathology. Most WB mutations are not pathological in the sense that human malformations are, they simply result in a slower rate of growth. Those few that do result from pathological infection cannot usually undergo successful propagation. Thus, I can feel safe taking enjoyment from my aesthetic appreciation of WB-derived dwarf plants without feeling that I'm engaging in some sick relish of twisted bits of diseased nature. :o) Oh yes, those are some very nice finds Sam! -Alex This post was edited by maple_grove on Tue, Nov 19, 13 at 13:08...See MoreAnyone have a Dacor 48" Discovery Range Top...?

I too found it hard to find people who had the Discovery line, but I am taking a chance after visiting several appliance stores and talking to a lot of people, oddly they all seemed to vote dacor above wolf....See MoreBoost your Routine. Comments (189)Did a load of dishes with Bubble Bandit last night. At first glance, everything looked amazing. However, as I was unloading things, I noticed that anything with a small amount of food on it, didn't wash away. :/ There was also a horrible streak on two glasses. Re-Washed everything this morning with Cascade Gel + STPP, and once again Spotless. I just don't get that Bubble Bandit stuff. :(...See MoreIrrational germination and growth rates: Discovery or what?
Comments (2)I tried Trillium in a passed (past?) life only to gave up and I am familiar with germination times but I don't think this is a factor here. Although each cycle had different seeds, they also had at least one seed in common and they were from the same packet. Each group had a tray of the Rutger's tomato. In the first batch, they germinated and grew quickly. The second batch three weeks later definitely took longer to germinate and showed signs of growing at a much slower rate. I will have to wait until next January to run this test again and this time I will take a lot of pictures. As far as I know, aside from temperature, all seeds had the same treatment and environment. I certainly will welcome any other suggestions though. I am going to guess that this will be a situation where, after I make a full diagnosis and a conclusion, that all of a sudden there will be posts here suggesting "Yes, you didn't know that?"
