Top half of tree dead, bottom half alive
Comments (10)Some kind of white birch, which are beautiful trees but they have lots of problems. Even in the best conditions they're short-lived compared to many other species. Where are you located? That looks like a pretty warm, dry environment for white birch, which like cool, moist soil. White birches are almost always killed off by the bronze birch borer (insects) after a few years, too. I think the top is completely dead and it will spread down through thre whole tree in a season or two. I recommend that you just remove the whole thing now and replace it with something better suited to your area. Comments (4)You will be able to find exactly what you want on the TruStile website. They have a very usable door designer application. They do MDF as well as just about any wood you want. You can specify sticking, panel designs, and even the glass. When you order the door from your local TruStile rep, just specify a door blank and then your builder will hang it on the Pocket Door track. Make sure you get the weight of the door blank so your builder gets the correct hardware. Comments (5)Karen: which technique are you doing? Textured wallpaper over old wallpaper? Or one of the others? Rereading my post (after getting some sleep) it reads more like I am asking about texturing with drywall compound (like imitating venetian plaster, or a tuscan stucco look). PLEASE come back and tell me how it went! I have seen the paper bag technique done on home improvement shows. ItÂs actually simpler. Dipping in poly would be very messy and sticky. You adhere the paper with latex glaze or acrylic matte medium. Then cover with the same clear liquid to seal it in before painting. My hesitation with doing that is if someday down the road you didnÂt want such a texture, you could NEVER get it off. The entire room would have to be skimcoated by someone with the skills to get it really flat and smooth. I donÂt think I want to go that route. At least with drywall compound texturing it could be sanded off smooth easily....See MoreHalf of my fiddle leaf is growing well and half looks like it's dying!
Comments (4)The cause is related to the plant's inability to move water to its most distal parts due to compromised root health/function. The most common cause of root issues is over-watering. Start monitoring soil moisture levels using a 1/4 or 5/16" wooden dowel rot (any hardware or big box store). Cut it in half (yields 2 - 24" pieces) and sharpen ends in a pencil sharpener. Stick deep into the soil, as in all the way to the bottom of the pot. If it comes out wet and stained dark from the soil, withhold water until it comes out almost completely dry. When you DO water, water to beyond the point of saturation - so the soil is completely saturated and at least 15-20% of the water you applied exits the drain hole. This is important because it flushes accumulating salts from the soil, salts that inhibit the plants ability to take up water and nutrients and skew the ratio of nutrients in the soil. If you can't water this way for fear your soil will remain soggy so long root health and function are negatively affected, you should address the problem or be prepared to do battle with your soil interminably for control over your plants' vitality (health). Of all factors you have complete control over, soil choice is most important. Getting it right is the largest single step forward you're likely to make as a container gardener. Al...See MoreJAN MOYER
