Wilmer gold tree,half dead?
Comments (2)I am guessing that this might be Cupressus macrocarpa 'Wilma Goldcrest', a dwarf columnar form of Monterey cypress with bright lemon-lime needles and scent. A very widely available conifer grown primarily for container culture. If the plant in question and the base is bare, you will not get regrowth in this area. Once most conifers lose their needles in a specific area, they will not replace them. Loss of needles like this on the lower half of the tree generally indicates improper watering practices, although a very shaded condition, extreme cold or the possibility of a disease can also produce similar results....See Moreapple tree half dead (pics)
Comments (12)The old saying "if it swims and looks like a duck, AND it quacks, it IS a duck" applies here. As one who lives in your part of the country, yes it is supposed to be dry. It looks like your tree is growing very close to a redwood tree, which will have roots close to the surface up to 100 feet from the tree. The redwood would not be growing there if the soil water was not close to the surface, thats the good part, the bad part is the redwood is also very good at extracting the water from the soil. The tree is where it is and if you want cherries, prune the tree when dormant to remove dead wood and open up the canopy to get what sun that gets through the redwood. For most of northern California cherries are a hit and miss crop and you may also have some pollinizer problems. Your propane tank is not a problem UNLESS you have a leak underground, which you would know about by the size of your bill. Enjoy your new property. Al...See MoreHelp, half of maple tree id dead? Trunk has large crack?
Comments (1)How does the top look? That wound looks like it was from last year. The wood is weathered grey and the callus tissue has begun to heal over. Maybe a buck rub, maybe a frost crack..., in any case it looks nasty but if the top looks healthy it will probably eventually (after a few years) heal over. Do not apply any paint or pruning sealer or anything. If the top is showing signs of stress, such as branches dying back, I would probably just replace it, especially if it is a specimen tree in your yard....See MoreTop half / bottom half
Comments (10)i mail ordered half of my 5 acres ... thats not the issue ... presuming you used a good source ... is it on the north side of the black top ... without snow cover ... and constant cold.. winter sun on blacktop ... can make a plant go in and out of dormancy ... and that is extremely bad ... get it dormant.. keep it dormant ... if my theory is supported ... on sunny winter days.. the top of the tree was warming too much.. too often.. when the tree was supposed to be dormant ... even if the top half is dead ... the rest.. if the roots settle in .. being a maple.; could take off like no tomorrow ... its not a goner.. unless your personality dictate it will drive you insane.. lol .. if so.. get rid of it ... in adrian MI .. the trees are barely leafing out.. i know metro detroit is ahead of us ... but you are way to anxious to come to any conclusions as to how they are doing... give them both at least a month or 2 before you come to any conclusions ... i am not aware of any soil issue in SE MI .... ken...See MoreSmivies (Ontario - 5b)
