A young couple needed a family-friendly space for their toddler and new baby that allowed them to work from home, spend time with their children, and entertain family. The previously unused formal living space was turned into a playroom that can be seen from the central areas of the home. The fireplace was put into use as a chalkboard that can be removed when the kids are grown and the space is reclaimed. All tall furnishings were strapped to the wall for earthquake safety.
