Every New Yorker dreams of having just a little more space. This couple was lucky enough to be able to purchase the adjacent studio apartment to combine with the one-bedroom that was bursting at the seams. Even with the additional space, Weil Friedman was challenged to accommodate the owners' extensive collections of books, art, carved wooden toys, and wine and their need to have work from home space. The brief called for a large kitchen, two separate office areas, wine storage and ample closet space. As the design was developed, the owner kept coming back to a desire for arched doorways. Instead of arched doorways, which are difficult to achieve with low ceiling heights, Weil Friedman proposed arched niches. The three arched niches became the design stars of the apartment!
