Need help in deciding exterior siding color for renovation
Comments (9)ro man we have very similar homes. Last summer we resided our colonial so this can give you an idea of how brown would look with black shutters. Ours is considerably darker than what you are considering, though. Our roof is a mid tone gray but you can't tell because the sun totally blew the color out in this photo. You said the sun damaged your current siding but it looks as if you'd have a lot of shade like we do with all your trees. I hesitate to suggest a color from your link because the computer makes color look much different than real life - in fact my house looks far more red (on my computer) than it does in real life - it's actually a dark greyed brown! Landscaping will make a HUGE difference and really bring your home to life. What planting zone are you in? I'm only familiar with plants that do well for me (z 5ish - 6, Chicago area) but would be happy to make suggestions if yours is similar....See MoreExterior color ideas needed - ranch renovation
Comments (2)I've decided on a white house with white trim. I think I'm leaning toward bluestone patio/walkway (no brick). I drove around the neighborhood and liked the white houses best. Here is one of them I liked... I hope we can do something similar with ours!...See MoreHelp! Need Advice for Exterior House Renovation
Comments (7)The house isn't bad at all. It is the landscaping that is trouble. As is often the case, a couple of trees would help. Since the house is low, small flowering trees would work. Keep the plantings low on the right side of the house, but expand the bed out past the porch. We can't really see what is going on at the left side to know what areas are bed and what is hardscaping. Be extremely careful with color if you can't resist the idea of paint. Right now, the various parts of the house - the brick, the roof, and the siding - go together. I don't know how many houses have been posted here since the Landscape Design forum was merged into Houzz that started out with perfectly reasonable 1960s, 1970s color schemes but now are badly in need of fixing because the omnipresent beige siding of the 1990's never went with the brick....See MoreExterior Renovation Ideas, 1950s Ranch with Two Entrances
Comments (7)Just put an addition on my house as well, and it looks very similar to yours, only I have a front porch. Because my house has a hip roof, we were only able to go from an 8 to a 9 foot ceiling for the back addition. Otherwise, it would have looked weird in the front of the house. Your architect will be able to help you with that. I would go somewhere from the front door to that walkway between the garage with the addition in back. I'm not a pro, so don't take my word for it....but I think the placement of the roof lines with that area will make the most sense. You'd be surprised what an update it will make! Lucky for you, your garage is in line with your house.....my was at an angle and made for a VERY tiny laundry room coming in from the garage, but it's just the two of us now and we will make it work. I could only make my addition 20 feet wide because of the angles of the different roof lines and hip roof. It doesn't appear you have that problem, so could make a fairly large addition out of it! I'll try to attach some pictures of mine to give you some ideas of how it transitioned into my roof line. I, too, have two entrances like you. One we use the heck out of, the other one just for moving big things in and out of the house! LOL!!...See MoreDenita
