Counter height window + thicker than standard counters
Comments (10)Thanks again everyone. firsthouse_mp and rhome, your kitchens have long been in my inspiration notebook and I think your thick countertops are awesome! firsthouse, may I ask how tall you are? I'm 5'7. My mom is 5'11", and designed her kitchen to have a finished counter height of 37 1/2" because standard feels too short for her. For me, 37 1/2" feels on the edge of uncomfortably high. rhome, may I ask what the floor to countertop height of your cabinets ended up being? Is it comfortable for you? Unfortunately, working with the cabinet guy isn't an option yet, since I don't have one thus far. My place is just being framed now, so cabinets won't be happening for a while. I wouldn't even have to be thinking about this yet, if it weren't for the window issue. I'm going with an induction cooktop and wall ovens, so unless there's something I'm forgetting, I mainly have to worry about the dishwasher height here. Sorry for the dense question, but is a "Euro model" one that's actually imported from overseas, or just a European brand, like Miele? (I'm guessing brands like Miele market larger units to the US market but I don't know)...See MoreDoes anyone have wood perimeter countertops and a marble island?
Comments (5)Andi- Thank you...that's really pretty :) KCRemodeler- That sounds wonderful! I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures. Fishies- I think you're right, but I'm trying to minimize the damage, so I thought the small island might get less abuse. We'll see... Boxerpups- Beautiful pictures, as always! Thank you, for all the options. I really like the last one, as I'm thinking about a small island or work table. My blue Arborite is no more and the one place in the city nearby, didn't even know what Arborite was! So, I don't think they'll be having any sales on display models. LOL Here are the bunny tiles and blue arborite I was hoping to use...which I'm sure most of you have seen :) From Lavender Lass farmhouse pictures From Lavender Lass farmhouse pictures I know I want white cabinets for the perimeter, but if there's no blue...I like this picture...and thought maybe I could paint the island/work table the blue, with a marble top, to go with this. What do you think? From Courtyard Garden album And for those of you, who have seen my earlier plan...our contractor said it would be very difficult to put the bedroom wing onto the existing house...and expensive. So, I'm back to my ealier plan, with all the porches and a corner banquette! Sorry, it's so light, but it's a copy. Comments (5)I have not had soapstone myself. Friends who have report it is easy to deal with. It looks good waxed/oiled and not. I could pet their counters forever ... but as they say, I have issues :-) Take a look at the stone and see if you like it. I think a natural stone is a better mate for what you already have than a quartz product....See MoreMatte Black Granite Perimeter Counter with Shiny White Quartz Island
Comments (16)we have leathered (honed?) absolute black perimeters and in each of the three bathrooms the island is butcher block and we love it no fingerprints, stuff (crumbs, flour etc) does show but clean up is easy and looks great i've had a very high end granite with lots of movement and i don't clean up any more now than i did then and i disliked it a lot......i wouldn't choose a "shiny" finish for the island but i'm not going to say it wouldn't be attractive... bil has absolute black (shiny) and it is difficult to keep looking nice......See MoreDD Scorpion
